CQU’s Prof. Zhang Wengang receives 2021 Outstanding Paper Award of Underground Space

Recently, Underground Space, an international authoritative journal on geotechnical and underground engineering, published the list of winners of 2021 Outstanding Paper Awards. Professor Zhang Wengang from the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, is among the list.

The research paper of Zhang Wengang titled “Performance of braced excavation in residual soil with groundwater drawdown” systematically expounds on the support system and site response characteristics caused by engineering drawdown in the process of deep and large foundation pit excavation, and compares and analyzes the response characteristics of deep and large foundation pit at home and abroad. This paper has been cited and commented by Chinese and foreign researchers since its publication. It is co-authored by researchers of Chongqing University, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Land Transport Authority.

Underground Space was founded in September 2016, and its online publication and release have been entrusted to KeAi Publishing. The Journal focuses on the general scientific, engineering and technical issues in the field of underground space, highlights inter-disciplines, and publishes high-quality research papers on the exploration, planning, design, construction, operation and management of underground space and engineering. It serves as a high-level journal exchange platform for scientific research and engineering technicians in relevant fields at home and abroad to promote the development of disciplines and industries related to underground space. The Journal was included in SCIE Database in November 2020. According to the Journal Citation Reports released by Clarivate on June 30, 2021, the journal received its first impact factor of 2.824, ranking at the 57th place among 136 journals in the field of Engineering, Civil in Zone Q2.

There is only one Outstanding Paper Award of Underground Space every year, which is selected as follows: (1) Candidate papers are selected according to data like paper citations; (2) An appraisal committee comprising international experts carries out review of the candidate papers, with emphasis laid on the scientificity, technicality, innovation and practicability of the papers on underground space.
