Diversified oversea exchange programs offered to students by CQU during summer holiday

To broaden the students international vision and improve their international communication ability, Chongqing University selected about 300 students through various channels to visit partner colleges and universities in Europe, Asia and America during summer holiday of 2017. Students were exposed to different cultural experiences and learning experiences during the learning and exchange period abroad, and they also showed their sound comprehensive quality and huge enthusiasm of CQU to the teachers and students abroad.


Inter-school Global Vision “Four European Countries” Study Camp Program: From July 13 to 25, 2017, 34 students of various majors visited Italy, Swiss, Spain and Finland on a “Four European Countries” learning and exchange visit. Students learned the innovation of business model startup, Italian design, fashion and culture, news media, as well as higher education of Italy and North Europe and other courses at University of Bicocca of Italy, Blanqurena School of Universitat Ramon Llull of Spain, and University of Helsinki of Finland. Besides, the students visited well-known local museums and art galleries after class. The Study Camp lasted for 13 days, during which period the students gained in-depth understanding of the concept and mode of higher education in Europe and experienced the unique charm of the exoticism.

Oversea Visit Study and Exchange Program under “Dream-come-true Program”: To ensure students from poverty-stricken families have equal access to diversified top-quality learning, the University launched the Oversea Visit Study and Exchange Program under “Dream-come-true Program”, which provides all funds for students with fine qualities from poverty-stricken families to study abroad or participate in research, studies and exchange activities. During August 20 and 30 of 2017, the Office of International Affairs and Office of Students’ Affairs jointly initiated the first visit study and exchange program under the “Dream-come-true Program” in Japan. Thirty outstanding students from poverty-stricken families selected from different schools took part in the Program. The Program includes three parts, namely, course learning, visit to enterprises and cultural experience. Students were given opportunities to learn the difference between the cultures of China and Japan, the economic culture of Japan, the development mode of retain business and artificial intelligence at University of Tokyo, Ritsumeikan University and Waseda University to know more about the culture of Japan and cutting-edge knowledge; the students also experienced yukata, sado, kyouyuzen drawing and sushi making; furthermore, they visited enterprises such as Asahi Shimbun, Asahi Beer and Toyota Hall and gained deeper understanding of the intensive and high efficiency, attention to details and the circular economy and the combination of production and study of modern enterprises in Japan. The 11-day program worked as a platform for those outstanding students from poverty-stricken families to know more about the world, and their fine qualities also impressed the students and teachers in Japan very much.

The Inter-school University of British Columbia Summer Program (UBC): During July 15 and August 15, 2017, 47 CQU students attended courses of art, architecture, commerce, dentology, pedagogy, forestry, kinematics, land and food system, law, and medicine with students from global partner colleges and universities at the fantastic campus of the research university, UBC, in Vancouver. The Program lasted for 4 weeks and CQU has for two consecutive years selected and granted funds to students to take part in the Program. CQU students communicated and discussed with students from other countries in the world and learned the courses together. Extensive experimental learning and cultural exchanges were also held. The schedule was very tight and the learning has been fruitful. The Program did not only widen the horizon of the student, but also stimulated the students’ enthusiasm for learning and study. Students also gained deeper understanding of the cultural difference between China and Canada and the learning experience.

School-level Students Summer Exchange Program: Besides the Summer Visit Study and Exchange Program launched under the lead of the Office of International Affairs, with support and encourage of Chongqing University, more and more schools planned and launched various oversea exchange programs for students. In 2017, nine schools organized for 132 students to attend the short-term professional courses and visit at foreign partner colleges and universities. Such programs include: Missouri Summer Visit Study Program of School of Civil Engineering (9 students), Belfast Queen's University Summer Exchange Program jointly held by School of Mechanical Engineering , School of Electrical Engineering and School of Aerospace Engineering (24 students), Sustainable Built Environment Summer Training Program in the UK of the School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering (37 students), China-Australia Joint Design Studio Program of 2017 of School of Architecture and Urban Planning (16 students), A JOURNEY TO A BETTER ME Oversea Visit Study Program of School of Construction Management and Real Estate (33 students), UBC Summer C-E Translation Enhancing Program of School of Foreign Languages (9 students) and School of Music, Mount Royal University, Summer Camp Program of the School of Arts (4 students).


There were also other summer exchange programs for students. To expand the students exchange channels and meet the demand for international training of students, the Office of International Affairs offered carefully picked excellent summer course programs or study and exchange programs held by well-known universities abroad. Through integrating the excellent summer programs held by foreign partner universities and colleges, CQU launched the Global Bridge series programs, and a total of 18 students were sent to the oversea college summer program. Those colleges and universities include the University of Oxford (11 students), University College London (3 students), Science Po Paris (1 student), Israel Institute of Technology (1 student) and Indonesia Surabaya Institute of Technology (2 students). Through excellent programs of the partner institutions, 23 students were respectively sent to University of California Berkeley (5 students), Summer Credit Program of CSU Los Angeles (3 students), Visit Study Program of UC Davies (1 student), Columbia University-Harvard University Joint Summer Course Program (1 student), New York University Program (1 student), Summer Course of the University of Oxford (2 students), Summer Course and Visit Study Program of the University of Cambridge (5 students), Summer Lab Program of University of Manchester (1 student), the University of Singapore Program (1 student), Environmental Research Program of Sophia University (1 student) and Well-known University Scholarship Study Program in Japan (2 students).


To encourage students to study abroad (overseas), expand the foreign (oversea) exchange scale of students, and improve the internationalization level of CQU, the University has set up special funds for international exchange of students and formulated the Management Measures for Special Subsidy for International Exchange of CQU Students, in an effort to provide financial aid for students studying and exchanging abroad (overseas). In addition, the CQU has also set up special scholarship fund for foreign language tests to encourage students to get ready for studying abroad. It is believed that with the support of CQU as to policy and expenditure, assistance and cooperation of related authorities, and active participation of the schools, the internationalization training of students of CQU will continue to achieve noticeable achievements.
