Promotion Campaign of UN Outreach Programme on Human Resources (Chongqing) 2017 held at CQU

On the morning of October 27, 2017, the promotion campaign of UN Outreach Program on Human Resources (Chongqing) is held at Minzhuhu Lecture Hall of Campus A, CQU. The campaign is sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and organized by Chongqing University. Chongqing is the third stop of the promotion campaign of the Programme conducted by the Human Resource Management Department of the United Nations in China. The delegation of the Programme, international staff members of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Yan Huiying, deputy director of the Office of International Treaties, Cui Quanshi, an official in charge of the Programme of the Department of International Cooperation, and Liu Hanlong, vice president of CQU, are all present. Furthermore, Chen Ying, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation, and Zhang Hongchun, deputy director of the Students Employment Guidance and Service  Center, also attend the campaign. The campaign is also attended by another more than 400 attendants including outstanding social young talents, and young teachers and students from Chongqing University, Southwest University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Sichuan International  Studies University.

Before opening of the campaign, Liu Hanlong receives the delegation of the UN Programme and officials of the MHRSS at the Minzhuhu Lecture Hall. Liu extends his sincere welcome to the guests, and introduces them to the development & history, current situation, international cooperation and communication and construction of the “Double-First-Rate” of Chongqing University. He points out that Chongqing University has been attaching extreme importance to the internationalization of talent cultivation, and expresses his hope that the UN Outreach Programme on Human Resources would collaborated with Chongqing University to send CQU students to work and study for the UN. Eva Jansen, head of the delegation, extends her gratitude for the arrangement and reception of CQU, and gives an introduction to the UN, and the purpose of the promotion campaign. Eva hopes that this campaign would allow more and more Chinese young people to know more about the UN, and encourage them to apply to participate in the voluntary service and probation programs of the UN.

The campaign is chaired by Chen Ying, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of Chongqing University. Liu Hanlong delivers a speech and extends his sincere welcome and gratitude to the attendants on behalf of Chongqing  University. He points out that the UN has been making efforts on procuring international security, economic development and social progress, and has made remarkable contribution to the peace and development of the world. Liu gives a brief introduction to the school mission, school running ideas, and internationalization strategy of Chongqing University, and encourages the students to seize the opportunity, work hard, broaden their horizon and improve their capacity, so as to get ready for working for international organizations. At the end, Liu wishes the campaign a great success.

Yan Huiying delivers a speech on behalf of the MHRSS, and extends her gratitude to Chongqing University for the well-organized campaign. Yan gives a brief introduction to the efforts made by China with respect to affairs of the UN, and the insufficient representation of Chinese staff members among the senior management of the UN system. In recent years, MHRSS has been concentrating efforts on cooperation with the UN in human resources, and publicizing the human resource policies of the UN system, and promoting the employment opportunities at the international organizations, so as to enhance the quality and capacity of potential candidates of China for the international civil servants. Yan expresses her hope that the ambitious young persons present would consider international organizations for employment, and get registered for the examinations of UN related positions. The MHRSS is already ready to offer assistance.

Eva JANSEN, a high commissioner on human resources of the Human Resources Management Department of the United Nations Secretariat, acts as the head of the delegation of the Programme. The delegation is made up of Ms. Lykke Anderson, an official in charge of JPO Programme from UNDP, Ms. Holly White, a commissioner on human resources from UNFPA, and Ms. Lauren Phillips, a commissioner on partnership development from UNV. They delegation members respectively give a detailed introduction to the human resource management of the UN system, in terms of the organization culture and administrative operation of the UN; service conditions such as salary level, welfare and treatment; employment opportunities such as position description and attendance requirements; admission requirements such as examination, appointment and recruitment conditions; requirements for the basic knowledge, capacity and quality of the applicants; and skills for written examination and interviews. The delegation members also interact and communicate with the attending students.

It is reported that MHRSS has already held two promotion campaigns respectively at Peking University and Xiamen University. Another promotion campaign is expected to be held at Wuhan University in the days to come.
