“2017 Geological Culture Study Winter Camp for Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macau College Students” held by CQU

To further the communication and cooperation between Chongqing University and colleges and universities in Hong Kong and Macau, upon invitation of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs of Chongqing University, 45 persons from University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Macau participate in the “2017 Cultural Study Winter Camp for Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macau College Students” held between December 23 and 29, 2017. The students from Hong Kong and Macau participate in a series of cultural study activities together with 20 outstanding student cadres recommended by the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs and Youth League Committee of CQU.

 

It is the 4th Geological Culture Study Winter Camp for Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macau College Students held by Chongqing University, and is financially supported by the Exchange Program for Teachers and Students of Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China of the Ministry of Education. The activity aims to allow the outstanding young people from colleges and universities of Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China to understand formation and characteristics of karst geography through cultural study, know more about the culture of Southwestern ethnic minorities, and probe into issues including cultural environment and tourist development, and maintenance of alpine ecology and agricultural development. The participants are also asked to contribute ideas and exert efforts for economic development in west China , protection of ecology and environmental protection of alpine areas in Chongqing, reasonable development and utilization of natural resources and environmental protection and utilization of the Yangtze River basin, and encouraged to make contribution to the construction of development of west China .

The Winter Campus lasts for 7 days and consists of various parts including cultural lecture, field visit, visit to museum and group discussion. Students are familiarized with the ecological environment, historical geography, local conditions and customs and minority culture of Chongqing, and of Wulong National Geological Park, Wulong Fairy Mountain National Park, and Wujiang River  Art Gallery and asked to think, discuss and communicate from different aspects.

Most of the students from Hong Kong and Macau come to Chongqing for the first time and they are greatly impressed by the urban landscape and the economic development of Chongqing. Fu Yiqian, a postgraduate student from the School of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong in his first year comments after getting to know the formation history of the Furong Cave: “The force of nature is really unbelievable. It is the gift to the people in Chongqing and even the world from God.”

The Winter Camp does not only enhance the understanding of culture of different regions of students from Chongqing, Hong Kong and Macau, and allow them to see more of the world, but also serves as a platform for mutual learning and exchange between students from the three cities. The students get to know each other during the Camp, with friendship enhanced and the bridge for emotional communication and cultural exchange set up.
