Chongqing University, since the beginning of its founding, has been characterized by the fusion of humanity and science. Mr. He Lu, in particular, has set an example of perfect combination of science and humanistic spirit. He was a mathematician, educator, calligrapher and poet. Mr. He managed to connect his interest in calligraphy, pursuit the art and education philosophy with the destiny of the country and the nation, and connect the social reality with development of times. He wrote poems as a means to record the daily life, express his sentiment of life and witness the changes of time. His poems and calligraphy works functioned as the voice of the nation, the ode to the era and the image of the country. The Exhibition is a larger-scale show of the calligraphy works of Mr. He Lu, and is also a way to inherit and promote the excellent culture of the Chinese nation. As pointed out by president Xi Jinping at the Forum on Cultural and Art Work, works that manifest the family-country feelings can best unite and inspire the Chinese people. Such feelings get extensively promoted in the poems and calligraphy works of Mr. He Lu. His spiritual character and artistic attainments deserve eulogization and inheritance even in nowadays. As the representative of Chongqing University, Meng Weidong expresses his pride and honor to be able to promote and disseminate the humanistic spirit of a former president of Chongqing University on this occasion.
