Coventry University delegation visits Chongqing University

A delegation made up of Dr. David Pilsbury, vice president of Coventry University in charge of international affairs, Professor Richard Dashwood, vice president of the University in charge of scientific research, Professor Weidong LI in manufacturing management and Ms. Zhi Finlay, director of East Asia Policy Partnership Office is on a visit to Chongqing  University on March 29, 2018. Vice President Liu Hanlong of Chongqing University is present at the meeting, accompanied by Lin Mingjin, dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Li Jing, vice dean of the School of International Education in charge of daily affairs, Chen Ying, vice dean of the School of International Education, Xu Guo, vice dean of the Research Institute of Scientific and Technological Development, Ye Lei, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and other related workers.

 

Liu Hanlong extends a warm welcome to the visitors at the beginning of the meeting, followed by a brief introduction to the basic condition of Chongqing University. Liu points out that Coventry University is playing a globally leading role in automobile engineering and automobile design and expresses his hope that the two universities may cooperative extensively in those areas. Liu suggests that the two parties communicate about the cooperation and keep in contact, so as to facilitate signing of the MOU between the two.

President David Pilsbury says that he agrees with Liu Hanlong and hopes that the two universities may start with key cooperative programs that contain two or three short phases, such as in-depth cooperation in joint cultivation of doctors, high-level cooperative scientific research and teacher and student exchange.

 

Lin Mingjin says that the School of Mechanical Engineering will continue to discuss with related persons of Coventry University about the cooperative programs above and proposes that the two universities may take turns to invite experts and professors in related areas to academic seminars and other activities held at the two universities, so as to foster material progress in the cooperative scientific research between the two.

 

Upon completion of the meeting, the two parties exchange presents and have group photos taken.

 

Introduction to Coventry University:

 

Coventry University is located in Coventry of the UK and is called CU for short. Coventry  University was founded initially as Coventry College of Design in 1843. After more than 100 years of consolidation and development, it was renamed as Coventry University according to the 1992 Continuing Education and Higher Education Act issued by the government of John Major. The University has the School of Humanities and Arts, the School of Engineering, Environment and Computer, the School of Health and Life Science, the School of Commerce and the School of Law. The University ranks between the 601st and the 800th places in the 2017/2018 Times World University Ranking, and the 551st place in 2017/2018QS World University Ranking.

 

Since a long time ago, Coventry University has been doing great in art design, in particular the design of industrial products. The most predominant program of the University is automobile engineering and automobile design, which ranks the first place and the third place respectively in the UK and in the world. After more than 150 years of development, Coventry University has now become a well-known comprehensive university of the UK .
