German Professor Hans Seifert visits National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys

At the invitation of Academician Pan Fusheng, director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMG), Professor Hans Jürgen Seifert, dean of the School of Applied Materials (IAM-AWP) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is on a visit to the School of Material Science and Engineering and CCMG from April 2 to 6, 2018. The two parties have had in-depth discussion about the cooperation intentions and a number of academic issues, and signed long-term MOU. Professor Seifert is appointed as a visiting professor of Chongqing  University.

On the afternoon of April 3, Professor Seifert delivers academic reports in Conference Room 319, Comprehensive Material Building of the School of Material Science and Engineering. Before the lecture, Academician Pan Fusheng presents Professor Seifert with the letter of appointment of visiting professor. Professor Seifert delivers a total of 3 academic reports, respectively titled (1) development of new alloys based on thermodynamic calculations, (2) development of new ceramic materials and coatings based on material calculation, and (3) study of performance, circulation and safety of lithium battery and development of new types of lithium batteries. In the process of academic exchange, Professor Seifert and Academician Pan Fusheng have discussion about various academic issues, including the defect control in the process of solidification of magnesium alloy, phase diagram research of high-purity magnesium alloy, development direction of nuclear technology of Germany , and the application prospect of magnesium batteries. Professor Chen Xianhua discusses with Professor Seifert about the purification technology of magnesium alloy. Researcher Yuan Yuan discusses research of oxidation kinetics of magnesium alloy surface and establishment of high-pressure phase diagram of magnesium alloy with Professor Seifert. The lecture and discussion last a total of 3 hours. Wang Jingfeng, vice dean of the School of Material Science and Engineering presents Professor Seifert with a memorial medal for cutting-edge rostrum on engineering science.

On the morning of April 7, Academician Pan Fusheng, dean of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, and Professor Seifert, School of Applied Materials (IAM-AWP) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, have further communication on shared research interests, and at last reach long-term cooperation intention. The two parties sign a long-term MOU with a term of 5 years, which involves collaborative research between the two parties, co-application for joint programs, joint student cultivation, joint promotion of development of the journal of CCMG, “Journal of Magnesium and Alloys”, and joint promotion of research in magnesium alloy and material, and development of new materials and technologies.
