Academician Deng Jianjun from China Academy of Engineering Physics visits CQU

Academician Deng Jianjun from China Academy of Engineering Physics is on an academic visit to Chongqing University at the invitation of the Faculty of Engineering on April 11, 2018. Academician Deng delivers an academic lecture titled Z Constriction Inertial Confinement Fusion and Its Application at Lecture Hall 6117 of the School of Electrical Engineering. Professor Liao Ruijin, director of the Faculty of Engineering, and vice president of Chongqing  University presides over the seminar. Students and teachers from School of OptoElectronic Engineering, the School of Electrical  Engineering, the School of Power Engineering, the School of Mechanical  Engineering, the School of Material Science and Engineering and the School of  Aerospace Engineering have attended the seminar and involved in the activity actively.

Academician Deng begins his speech with a systematic introduction to the nuclear fission and nuclear fusion and the conditions to be met for nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. After that, he goes over the comparative analysis of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion in terms of energy releasing intensity, fuel waste, reliability, safety and sustainability, and explains the practical significance of research of nuclear fusion reaction in solving the problem of energy deficiency in the future and meeting the national defense requirement of China in details. Then, Academician Deng gives a detailed introduction to the research background, current research situation at home and abroad and the research significance of Z constriction inertial confinement fusion, and its development and application in Julong No. of the National Defense System, as well as its application prospect in the Z constriction driven fusion-fission hybrid reactor fusion energy resource.

In the interaction and exchange part, Academician Deng answers questions raised by students and questions with regard to high-voltage pulse insulating materials, treatment of nuclear waste, experiment instrument and apparatus commercialization and independent R&D of nuclear materials. The students are benefited a lot in this part.

Academician Deng’s personal experience of being devoted to tackling one single scientific question for 16 years tells us that anyone who is engaged in scientific research should endure loneliness, and should make contributions to the scientific research of China with a lofty sense of mission, the sense of responsibility and unremitting patriotism.

 

After the seminar, Academician Deng visits the National Key Lab for Safety and New Technology of Power Transmission and Distribution Equipment and System, the National Key Lab for Mechanical Transmission, the Research Center for Micro-system, and the Key Lab for Photoelectric Technology and System of the Ministry of Education, and discusses with the researchers of the labs with respect to key technical issues, cutting-edge development trend of nuclear disciplines and the crossing and fusion of new engineering disciplines.

This visit is actually a return visit following the visit of the Faculty of Engineering delegation to China Academy of Engineering Physics in November 2017 and it will carry forward the communication, exchange and cooperation between the two sides.
