3rd National Symposium on Biomechanics for Young Scholars held at CQU

From May 4 to 6, 2018, the “3rd National Symposium on Biomechanics for Young Scholars”, sponsored by the Mechanics Division, Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation and the Specialized Committee on Biomechanics of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering/Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Specialized Committee on Biomechanics and Biorheology of Biophysical Society of China, and organized by Chongqing University, is being held in the Conference Room of the Library at Huxi Campus, Chongqing University. The purpose of the Symposium is to exhibit the academic achievements of China in the biomechanics area, foster rapid growth of young scholars on biomechanics in Chin, and promote material cooperation among young scholars in areas such as academic exchange and talent cultivation, and ultimately drive the development of China ’s biomechanics discipline.

Professor Lyu Yonggang from the School of Bioengineering, CQU chairs the Symposium, and Professor Wang Guixue, dean of the School, presides at the opening ceremony. Professor Xia Zhining, assistant to the president of Chongqing University/deputy director of the Faculty of Sciences, appears at the opening ceremony and delivers a speech. Director Zhan Shige, Division of Mechanics Science of the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation, Professor Jiang Zonglai, former chairman of the Specialized Committee on Biomechanics of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering/ Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and Professor Yang Li, chairman of the Specialized Committee on Biomechanics and Biorheology of Biophysical Society of China and chairman of the Specialized Committee on Hemorheology of Chinese Society of Microcirculation, have also attended the Symposium as honored guests and delivered speeches.

Professor Fan Yubo from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Professor Long Mian from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered invited speeches respectively titled “biomechanics in the health area” and “mechanics and tissue/organ development”. A total of 34 young scholars aged below 40 (inclusive) with great development potential in the biomechanics area that have been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation are invited to the Symposium to make oral presentations. Those young scholars were selected by the Division of Mechanics Science and the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation. Among them, there are 8 persons who have been granted the “the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars” and 5 scholars under the “Young Overseas High-level Talents Introduction Plan”. In addition, Professor Ji Baohua, Professor Qi Yingxin and Professor Li Zhiyong and other young and middle-aged scientists with considerable achievements in the biomechanics area are also present at the Symposium.
