Executive director of CUMEC visits CQU

On April 10, 2019, Han Jianzhong, executive director of CUMEC of China Electronics Technology Group Corp., and his companions visited Chongqing University. The two parties had discussion over cooperation between them. Zhu Caizhao, executive vice president of Institute of Scientific Research and Development, presided at the meeting.

Before the meeting, President Zhang Zongyi and Vice President Ming Ju of Chongqing University met with Han Jianzhong and his companions. Zhang Zongyi extended warm welcome to the delegation and emphasized that the university-enterprise cooperation should be based on a holistic view, with importance attached to innovation and breakthroughs. In addition, cooperation should be realistic and workable.

Han pointed out that the goal of development of CUMEC was to become the domestic leader and even global leader in this area; this visit to Chongqing University aimed to consolidate the unilateral cooperation and to have discussion with Chongqing University with respect to the creative way to build an innovation consortium.

At the meeting, Ming Ju extended warm welcome to the delegation led by Han Jianzhong, and gave a brief introduction to Chongqing University; Zhu Caizhao gave a view of the efforts made by Chongqing University in implementation of the national innovation-driven strategy and construction of the “1+5” scientific and technological innovation system. Guo Jin, senior director of CUMEC, gave a brief introduction to CUMEC and the ideas of development of “CQU & CUMEC” Innovation Consortium. Professor Liu Yufei from the School of OptoElectronic Engineering delivered a report on the recent progress made in construction of the Technical Center for Coupled Semiconductor Innovation of Chongqing University.

The attendants also had detailed and practical discussion over the development ideas and concrete implementation of cooperation projects between the two.

In the last part, Ming Ju pointed out that the university-enterprise cooperation should have clear positioning, top-level design and a holistic view. Furthermore, the subject should be clearly identified; the Innovation Consortium should be built based on the existing platforms of the two parties and integrate innovation resources, so as to make innovative breakthroughs; the University should appoint the specific coordinating department to have further discussion with CUMEC over specific matters, so as to allow the Innovation Consortium to meet real needs.

Guo Yongcai, dean of the School of OptoElectronic Engineering, Professor Tan Xiaoheng, deputy dean of the School of Microelectronics and Communication Engineering (in charge of daily affairs), and expert representatives of related areas were all present at the meeting.

Introduction to CUMEC: With a total investment of about 10 billion yuan, CUMEC plans to be built as a pilot scale test platform for manufacturing of 8-in and 12-in top-grade integrated circuit of characteristic process, a collaborative design platform for integrated circuit and a heterogeneous and isomeric 3D integration and packaging platform. UMEC is going to undertake national, local and enterprise-level scientific and technological projects and military and civilian integration projects, and provide complete IP needed for “design-process-product” of integrated circuit, thus making contributions to product development in areas such as automotive electronics, photo-communication and artificial intelligence.

CUMEC is going to gather Chinese and foreign top talents specialized in integrated circuit in Chongqing, and promote breakthroughs in core technology of integrated circuit of Chongqing. Its ultimate goal is to develop advanced product design and high-end manufacturing process and technology, and build a cutting-edge platform for joint R&D and collaborative innovation, and eventually create a desirable industrial ecology for integrated circuit.
