NUS’ vice-chancellor visits CQU

On April 24, 2019, Professor Li Yaoming, vice chancellor of the National University of Singapore, visited Chongqing University. Wang Xu, deputy secretary of CPC CQU Committee, attended the meeting.

Wang Xu introduced Li Yaoming to the development history, talent nurturing, disciplinary construction and international exchange of Chongqing University, and spoke highly of the profound academic strength and innovative education and nurturing mode of NUS. She emphasized the positioning of Chongqing as “two points” and “two places” by President Xi, and the “two-high” requirements proposed by President Xi. Chongqing serves as the operation center of the third inter-government cooperation project between China and Singapore, the China-Singapore Strategic Interconnection Project, and has location and platform advantages for modern interconnection, as well as basic transportation advantages and basic communication advantages. Furthermore, Chongqing has an industrial foundation for development of modern service and economy. The China-Singapore Strategic Interconnection Project is in accordance with the new measures of China’s opening-up and development, and is also an opportunity of Chongqing to open up further as an inland municipality. The two universities have maintained cooperation relation for a long time. Li expressed his hope that the two sides could expedite, strengthen and deepen mutual cooperation in areas such as student and teacher exchange, co-building of scientific research platform and dissemination of industrial technology.

Li Yaoming said that NUS was currently preparing to build Chongqing Research Institute, which is expected to be brought into operation in later half of 2019. Chongqing Research Institute is going to include 4 research platforms respectively for finance, digital technology, logistics and advanced materials. The four platforms will be utilized to promote cooperation and exchange between professors of the two universities. Li added that industrialization of scientific research achievements was also one of the focuses. He expressed his hope that NUS would be able to collaborate with Chongqing University Industrial Technology Research Institute and learn its successful experience in scientific research incubation and industrialization, so that the two would be able to help each other and jointly develop products needed by enterprises. Furthermore, he pointed out that NUS could help Chongqing explore Southeast Asia market and offer assistance in incubation of scientific research achievements in Southeast Asia.

The two sides exchange gifts and had group photo taken after the meeting.

After that, Li Yaoming and his companions were showed around the campus.

 

Dr. Fu Wei, deputy director of the President’s Office of NUS, Xu Jun, director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of Chongqing University, and the Deputy Director Gao Xiang, Yang Yongqi, vice president of Institute of Scientific Research and Development, Yuan Yunsong, deputy director of the Teaching Affairs Office, and Xian Jia, head of the Teaching and Education Department of Industrial Technology Research Institute, were also present at the meeting. Zhang Yimeng from the Scientific Innovation Bureau of Liangjiang New Area also attended the meeting.
