WORTH-9 held in Chongqing

WORTH-9 (The Ninth China-Korea Workshop on Nuclear Reactor Thermal-Hydraulics) was being held at Kingworld Hotel Chongqing from May 15 to 18, 2019. This Workshop is sponsored by Nuclear Power Institute of China and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and organized by Key Lab of Low-grade Energy Utilization Technologies & Systems, MOE and the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Chongqing University, with assistance of Sichuan Provincial Nuclear Society.

 

Totally 11 plenary lectures were delivered at the Workshop upon invitation. There were 5 topics, including basic experiment on thermal hydraulics, CFD technology application, safety analysis and program development, serious accident study and advanced reactor technology. More than one hundred papers were included in the proceedings. There were 82 oral presentations and 15 poster presentations. A total of 22 scientific research institutions and colleges and universities in China participated in the Workshop, including Nuclear Power Institute of China, China General Nuclear Power Corporation, State Power Investment Corporation Limited, China Institute of Atomic Energy, Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecological Environment, Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., Huaqing (Beijing) Nuclear Power Technological R&D Center Co., Ltd., Chongqing University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, North China Electric Power University, Harbin Engineering University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Sun Yat-Sen University, South China University of Technology, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Shenzhen University, Central South University, Nanjing Tech University and Southwest Petroleum University. There were 46 foreign participants including chairman of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Professor Hee-Cheon NO from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and representatives from 12 Korea scientific research institutions, colleges and universities including Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, KIAT, Korea Nuclear Safety Research Institute, Chung-ang University, Kyung Hee University, Hanyang University, Pohang University of Science and Technology and Kunsan National University. Representatives from HZDR Research Institute and Prolet were also present at the event. In total, more than 160 researchers, teachers and students have participated in the Workshop.

 

Professor Pan Liangming from the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Chongqing University presided at the Workshop. Professor Liao Qiang, dean of the School, delivered a welcome speech. Huang Yanping, director of the Key Lab of Center Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics Technology of NPIC and Professor Chul-Hwa SONG from KIAT delivered the opening speeches. During the event, 11 Chinese and foreign experts including Dr. Wang Junfeng from NPIC and Professor Pan Liangming from Chongqing University delivered keynote speeches on thermal hydraulics of reactors. Through strict review and presentation, 16 best papers and 4 best posters were selected. Wan Jie and Chen Bo, postgraduates majoring in nuclear science and technology from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Chongqing University, won the best paper awards. Student Chu Tao won the best poster award.

 

Since its first session in 2001, the Workshop has been held successfully for 9 sessions. It is aimed to facilitate exchange between research institutions and colleges and universities in China and Korea on education, scientific research and talent nurturing in areas such as nuclear science and technology. It has been proved to be effective in promoting academic exchange between China and Korea in nuclear engineering. The 10th session of the Workshop is going to be held in Korea in 2021.
