International Forum of Famous Journal Editors and 3rd National Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things held at CQU

On June 5, 2019, the “International Forum of Famous Journal Editors and 3rd National Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things” organized by the School of Computer Science of Chongqing University and co-organized by Chongqing Branch of ACM was held at Minzhu Lake Lecture Hall, Campus A, Chongqing University.

Professor He Haibo, editor in chief of IEEE Trans Neural Networks and Learning Systems (IEEE TNNLS) and IEEE Fellow, Professor Jin Yaochu, editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems and IEEE Fellow, and Professor Goong Chen, editor in chief of Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, attended the Forum upon invitation and delivered keynote speeches. Furthermore, Chinese and foreign experts from industries including Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence and teaching experts from colleges and universities also attended the Forum and had discussion about construction ideas and direction of related disciplines in colleges and universities and applied research of the Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence.

Professor Liao Xiaofeng, dean of the School of Computer Science of Chongqing University, chaired at the Forum and delivered the opening speech. Professor Guo Songtao, deputy dean of the School, presided at the Forum. Professor He Haibo, Professor Jin Yaochu and Professor Goong Chen delivered splendid keynote speeches at the Forum.

Professor He Haibo delivered a report titled “Machine Learning: From Shallow to Deep”. In his speech, He reviewed and discussed development and application of machine learning in recent years, with the deep-to-shallow neural network structure as the starting point. Furthermore, the deep and reinforce learning was taken as an example to explain the great benefit of deep learning system development for learning and decision making process, and the extensive application of the deep learning system in areas such as intelligent grid, wireless transmission and robot interaction. In the last part, Professor He shared a series of basic issues in machine learning area and his in-depth thoughts on such issues.

Professor Jin Yaochu delivered a keynote speech titled “Morphogenetic Self-Organization of Swarm Robots”. In his speech, Jin gave an introduction to a morphogenesis method that uses imitation gene and cellular mechanism to achieve self-organization of robots. With this method, modes and envelope motion targets could be generated spontaneously without centralized control. In the last part, Professor Jin shared a self-organization method based on morphogenesis element designed particularly for simple robots without the positioning and orientation function.

Professor Goong Chen displayed the implosion of objects with vivid and lifelike examples. He also gave an introduction to the way of modeling using a computer. Professor Goong took the submarine as an example and explained the implosion of a submarine in the deep ocean. He also introduced a number of measures to improve the crushing resistance and crashworthiness of submersibles working in the deep ocean.

After listening to three reports delivered by well-known international journal editors, experts and scholars from various areas like the Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence, shared their research findings and the opportunities and challenges in those areas, and discussed the construction thoughts and direction of disciplinary construction in colleges and universities.

The rapid development in the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computation and artificial intelligence has resulted in a huge gap of related industrial talents. This Forum served as a platform for experts and scholars to have discussion about academic researches and talent nurturing; strengthened communication and cooperation between colleges and universities and enterprises at home and abroad; facilitated project cooperation, technical development, teaching and research and disciplinary construction related to artificial intelligence and Internet of Things; and expedited cultivation of talents in artificial intelligence and Internet of Things and dissemination of applied achievements.
