HKAORS delegation visits CQU

On the morning of June 21, 2019, a delegation of 16 from Hong Kong Association of Overseas-Returned Scholars Limited arrived at Chongqing University. The Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, the Institute of Scientific Research and Development and related schools of Chongqing University attended the meeting with the delegation.

Xu Jun, director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, extended his warm welcome to the HKAORS delegation on behalf of Chongqing University, and introduced to them the basic profile of Chongqing University in terms of development history, talent nurturing, disciplinary construction and international exchange.

Professor Hu Weixing, president of HKAORS, extended his gratitude towards Chongqing University on behalf of the delegation and gave a view of basic information of HKAORS. Professor Hu stated that members of HKAORS would love Hong Kong and China, and respond to the call of China in an active way, and work hard for maintaining stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.

Xu Guo, vice president of the Institute of Scientific Research and Development, Chongqing University, presented the scientific researches of Chongqing University. In 2018, Chongqing University achieved “two new highs” and “three growths”. The “two new highs” referred to the historic high in terms of scientific research funds, which was 1.349 billion yuan, and the historic high in terms of the number of provincial and ministerial first prizes for scientific and technological progress; the “three growths” referred to the rapid growth of the number of major scientific and technological research projects, the number of high-standard papers and the number of patent applications submitted. Xu Guo stressed that Chongqing University was going to implement the scientific and technological innovation capacity improving plan, and concentrate efforts on connotation-based construction of the “1+5” scientific and technological innovation system. He expressed his hope that the two parties would establish a long-term cooperation relation in areas such as student and teacher exchange and building of scientific and technological research platforms.

Tang Baoping, deputy dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhang Wengang, deputy dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Qian Yuxue, director of the Higher Education Project of the School of Economics and Business Administration, Professor Weng Lingfeng of the School of Public Administration, Professor Mei Hu of the School of Bioengineering, and Professor Wan Manlu of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science respectively gave an introduction to their schools and expressed their hope for further cooperation with colleges and universities in Hong Kong.

After that, Professor Zhou Tao, deputy dean of the School of Management Science and Real Estate, delivered a special report titled “path and mode of Chongqing’s urbanization and urban construction”. Professor Zhou gave a view of Chongqing in terms of history, current situation and the future. He proposed that the economy of Chongqing, as an export-oriented commercial city, should shift from the “growth mode” gradually into “development mode”, so as to improve the quality of the municipality, enhance its transportation capacity, and empower the secondary and tertiary industries represented by “chips, LCD panels, intelligent devices, new energy and internet of things”, thus exploiting the potential of Chongqing’s economic development. Furthermore, we should build three major platforms, expand the urban spaces, and creating energy nodes to add momentum to the economic development of Chongqing. As for the development path of Chongqing, we should have a clear understanding of Chongqing, figure out the laws and follow the trend. With joint efforts, Chongqing will have an extraordinary future. In the question and answer part, Miu Guili, Wang Jingxian and Professor Zhou Tao, all members of HKAORS, had discussion regarding talent introduction, real estate industry development and high-tech related issues of Chongqing. Professor Zhou Tao confessed that Chongqing still had a long way go but it had never stopped working hard to become a better municipality.


After the meeting, the two sides exchanged gifts and had group photos taken.
