The results of the 3rd National Structural Design Information Technology Competition for college students were announced the other day. Totally 891 competing teams of Group A from 186 colleges and universities participated in the Competition. Eventually, 10 CQU teams, guided by 5 teachers, won 2 special prizes, 4 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 1 third prize.

This Competition was about “digital architecture and smart construction”. The selected project was the prefabricated architectural design of a teaching building of a middle school, and the structural system was limited to "assembled integral steel and concrete composite frame structure". During the Competition, the participating teams were asked to carry out structural design according to the architectural drawings, establish calculation and analysis model and three-dimensional structural information model, draw structural construction drawings and deepen prefabricated components through three-dimensional structural information model, and deliver corresponding drawings. A new part called basic design and manual calculation of steel structure joints was set up for this Competition, which was more difficult than the previous two Competitions.

Structural analysis model

During the four months of preparation for the Competition, participating students received online training, self-studied the related software and got familiarized with the specifications. They worked hard in a devoted manner and the teams cooperated with each other with clear division of responsibilities. They managed to carry on with the design work and finally achieved gratifying results.
