The Federal Ministry of Education and Research held the 2021 “Green Talent” Awarding Ceremony on line on October 15, 2021. Totally 25 outstanding young researchers around the world were granted this honor in recognition of their important contributions to sustainable development area. Researcher He Baojie from the Research Center for Climate Resilience and Low Carbon Cities, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University, won the award. He Baojie is the only Chinese researcher who won the award in 2021.
He Baojie is currently a researcher and doctoral supervisor of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing University. His research focuses on urban heat mitigation and adaptation, zero energy consumption building and passive housing design under global/local climate change. He is also an advocator of the construction of cool cities and communities. He Baojie has published more than 80 high-quality papers in English journals and delivered oral reports at many major conferences at home and abroad. He has been invited to serve as the special editor, chief guest editor, deputy editor, editorial board members, conference chairman, branch chairman and scientific committee members of various internationally renowned journals (such as Sustainable Cities and Society, Remote Sensing, Frontiers in Public Health and Buildings) and conferences. He has been rated by Mendeley as one of the top 100,000 scientists (2%) in the world in 2020. He Baojie is currently the chairman of the First International Conference on Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability.
The "Green Talents" Award was launched in 2009 with the support of Johanna Wanka, minister of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This year, the Award focuses on the multiple sustainable development goals as proposed by the United Nations. The Award aims to commend young scholars who have made outstanding research contributions in the field of sustainable development. In 2021, totally 25 “Green Talents” Awardees were selected by the senior expert jury out of 467 applicants from 78 countries.
The judges of "Green Talents" highly appreciated the efforts made by He Baojie in sustainable urban planning and urban climate, especially his pioneering research on urban heat mitigation and adaptation and net zero carbon built environment, which is particularly important to solve the urban heat problem caused by high-temperature heat wave and heat island effect in the process of urbanization in the context of global climate change. On October 7, this year’s awardees have started a two-week session of scientific discussions and exchanges to establish contacts with researchers from famous universities such as Freiburg University, Munich University of Technology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Berlin Institute of Technology, so as to lay a foundation for mutual cooperation in the future.
After the Awarding Ceremony, Counsellor Sun Guowang of the Office of Science and Technology of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, granted an interview to Research He Baojie, and congratulated on his winning of this award as the only Chinese researcher and highly appreciated his contributions to the global sustainable development. In 2022, He Baojie will be invited to Germany to participate in fully-funded cooperation research projects.
