The Student Forum of the International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment 2021 was held electronically on December 10, 2021. The Student Forum was sponsored by Chongqing University and organized by the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, the National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon and Green Buildings and the Joint Laboratory of International Cooperation on Green Building and Human Settlements, the Ministry of Education, with substantial support of Qianwei Meters (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. and China Green Building Council of CSUS.
Liu Meng, deputy dean of the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, presided at the opening ceremony of the Student Forum. Hua Jianmin, secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Civil Engineering, delivered an opening speech. Associate Professor Yu Wei from the Research Institute of Green Building and Indoor Environment, gave an introduction to the rating standard of best academic reports. The Student Forum comprised two sessions. The theme of Session I is green building and energy conservation, with Professor Chen Chao from Beijing University of Technology, Professor Fang Xiande from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Professor Lyu Shishou from Tianjin University as reviewing experts. The theme of Session II is indoor environment, comfort and health, with Mo Jinhan, a tenured associate professor of Tsinghua University, Professor Yang Bin from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology and Professor Liu Zhijian from North China Electric Power University as the reviewing experts.
Totally 56 students from more than 20 colleges and universities at home and abroad, such as the University of Reading, Tsinghua University, Chongqing University, Southeast University and Tianjin University delivered wonderful academic reports on their researches. Students shared their academic views and had in-depth academic exchange at the Forum. Experts rated the performance of the students and eventually 1 first award, 2 second awards and 5 third awards were granted to winners of the best academic reports selected from students participating in the two sessions. The Forum served as a platform for students engaged in research areas such as building and environment to learn and exchange, and improved students’ understanding of “the contribution of green building to peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality”, and played an important role in enhancing students’ scientific research ability and developing their ability of thinking out of the box.
The International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Building and Environment (SuDBE) is an influential world-level academic conference in the field of building and environment founded by Chongqing University. It has been held for 10 straight years at the University of Reading, the University of Cambridge and other universities. The themes of SuDBE range from low-carbon and green buildings, green civil structure and underground works, healthy and comfortable indoor environment and low-carbon building, low-carbon energy system and green and intelligent operation and maintenance, sustainable and low-carbon ecological development of cities. SuDBE2021 was being held from December 10 to 12, 2021 in Chongqing, with the theme of “green building contributing to peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality”, in an effort to assist in implementation of the national “peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality” strategy, practice green and low-carbon development and further meet the people’s need for a better life.
