On the morning of August 24, 2018, the “International Forum on Artificial Intelligence” co-held by Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing University and Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Science kicks off in the main teaching building of Chongqing University. At the forum, Li Deyi, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Kotagiri Ramamohanarao, a fellow of Australian Academy of Science, James Demes, a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences, and other experts and scholars from home and abroad communicate and exchange ideas through keynote speeches and interaction, in an effort to explore the future development path of artificial intelligence. Zhang Zongyi, president of Chongqing University, Yang Dan, managing vice president of CQU, officials of Chongqing Science and Technology Commission and more than 150 scholars and insiders from colleges and universities are also present at the Forum. Zhang Qin, a standing member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and former vice chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, presides at the Forum.
Zhang Zongyi delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Chongqing University and extended his warm welcome to the honored guests present at the Forum. After that, Zhang briefly introduced the overall situation of Chongqing University and its scientific layout with respect to intelligence-based development of big data. He added that this Forum is a place where top masters in artificial intelligence from home and abroad get together to discuss directly the latest trend of this area, and probe into and share the academic dynamics of artificial intelligence sector. Zhang also expressed his confidence that the Forum would be a fruitful one and would play a positive role in innovative application and rapid development of AI research.
After that, Academician Li Deyi delivered a keynote speech titled Future Vehicles in My Eyes, in which Li used autonomous driving by robots as an example to describe the development perspective of intelligent cars in 2030 and beyond. Academician Li pointed out in his speech that 2018 is the year of artificial intelligence and automobiles would become tools that are capable of learning. Wheeled robots would be become the sensor of a moving society, and the important source of big data. He also indicated that brain driving and driving super brain do not only belong to China, but also belong to the entire world.
Academician Kotagiri Ramamohanarao delivered a speech titled Artificial Intelligence = Big Data Analysis + Machine Learning + Cloud Computation. He pointed out that as for machine learning and cloud computation in the artificial intelligence area, the two prevailing challenges include insufficient samples and high data dimension. Academician Kotagiri Ramamohanarao also gave a concrete introduction to the latest data optimization and processing method of his team, which can be used to obtain a satisfactory precision despite the sample insufficiency and high data dimension.
Academician James Demes delivered a speech titled Communication Avoidance Algorithm in Areas such as Linear Algebra and Machine Learning. In his speech, Academician James Demes referred to the time and efforts needed for an algorithm, which include the time it takes to do the computation and the efforts made to achieve it. The research goal is to increase the difference between the triggering time and triggering device through visit. It is hoped that the difference will increase more than 100 times in the future 10 years.
At last, Academicians Kotagiri Ramamohanarao and James Demes and Researcher Zhang Yunquan from Chinese Academy of Sciences communicated and interacted with journalists present under the topic “the Future of Artificial Intelligence”. The three well-known scholars shared their unique insights in their speeches and in the communication, and the atmosphere at the scene has been quite active and heated. The Forum plays a positive driving role in exploration of future development path of artificial intelligence and promotion of intelligence-based innovation research development of big data of Chongqing University.
