The 40th Anniversary of Journal of Building Structures and 5th Forum on Basic Theory and Innovation Practice of Building Structure are being held in Chongqing from December 17 to 18, 2018.
This Forum is sponsored by the Architectural Society of China, Periodical Office of the Journal of Building Structures and Chongqing University and organized by the School of Civil Engineering, CQU. More than 500 scholars and experts including 8 academicians have attended this Forum.
The opening ceremony is chaired by Professor Nie Jianguo from Tsinghua University, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and editor in chief of the Journal of Building Structures. Zhang Zongyi, president of Chongqing University, Xiu Long, president of the Architectural Society of China and Ding Jiemin, director of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Building Structures, have respectively delivered a speech.
Zhang Zongyi gave a view to the history and overall situation of Chongqing University, and spoke highly of the contribution of the Journal of Building Structures to development and prosperity of China’s civil engineering discipline. Zhang also extended his sincere congratulations on the 40th anniversary of this journal and his hope that the attending representatives of Chongqing University would take this opportunity to deepen cooperation and communication with peers, thus facilitating the construction of the civil engineering discipline.
Xiu Long pointed out in his speech that the Journal of Building Structures conforms to the times and responds to the call of reform and opening-up. It contains the academic achievements in the architectural engineering area, and has witnessed the academic achievements of senior experts and growth of young scholars.
Ding Jiemin highly commended the achievements made by Journal of Building Structures in the past 40 years in his speech and expressed his expectations for this Forum. Ding also extended his gratitude towards the organizers of this Forum for their contributions and wished the Forum a huge success.
The “classic academic paper” and “special contribution award” ceremony was held as part of the opening ceremony. The “classic academic paper” is selected out of more than 5,000 papers issued on the Journal of Building Structures since its first publication. Song Chunhua, former minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and Academician Zhou Xuhong presented the authors of 40 “classic academic papers” with the honor certificates. The “special contribution award” was given to former editors in chief and associate editors in chief.
The Forum started immediately after the ceremony. A total of 11 seminars were held in just two days. There was the plenary session and the special session. The special session covered 5 topics, including “disaster prevention and reduction”, “basic theory on concrete”, “application of new materials”, “research of structural system innovation”, and “fabricated structure and structural reinforcement”. Totally 142 experts and scholars have delivered applaudable speeches. In particular, academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering including Dong Shilin, Shen Shizhao, Zhou Fulin, Ou Jinping, Zhou Xuhong, and Nie Jianguo, and Professor Li Guoqiang from Tongji University, a foreign fellow of Belgian Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences and Arts, respectively delivered a keynote speech.
The salon of editors in chief of technical journals in civil engineering sector was held simultaneously with the Forum. More than 20 editors in chief, associate editors in chief and directors of civil engineering journals in China have attended the Salon, among which there was Professor Dong Shilin from Zhejiang University, editor in chief of the Space Structure and an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Nie Jianguo from Tsinghua University, editor in chief of the Journal of Building Structures and an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Hanlong, vice president of Chongqing University and editor in chief of the Journal of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, Professor Chen Yiyi from Tongji University, the executive chief editor of Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering, and Liu Xuedong, general manager of Chinese Academic Journals (CD) Electronic Journal Publishing House. The attendants had discussions over a number of topics like first-rate disciplines and first-rate journals, international brand and operation, journal and internet integration and transformation and upgrading. They also offered advices and suggestions on development strategy of scientific journals in the civil engineering sector, improvement of the digitalization level of scientific journals in the civil engineering sector, reinforcement of role of the journals in communication and exchange in the scientific and technological area at home and abroad and increase of influence and competitiveness of journals. Zhao Qi, former deputy head of the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and vice president of the Architectural Society of China, and Ding Jiemin, director of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Building Structures attended and addressed the Salon.
The Forum was brought to a successful close at 5:50pm on December 18. Yang Qingshan, dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Chongqing University, presided at the closing ceremony. At the ceremony, Hua Jianmin, secretary of CPC Committee of the School of Civil Engineering, and Li Shuchun, associate editor in chief of the Journal of Building Structures, presented the co-organizers with honorary certificates. Zhao Qi, former deputy head of the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and vice president of the Architectural Society of China, presented Chongqing University with the “special contribution award” of this Forum. Professor Fan Jiansheng from Tsinghua University delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers of the “6th Forum on Basic Theory and Innovation Practice of Building Structure”.
At the end, Zhao Qi, former deputy head of the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and vice president of the Architectural Society of China, announced the closing of the Forum.
