On the morning of January 8, 2019, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference held by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council opened at the Great Hall of the People. The Conference was attended by Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Wang Huning, Han Zheng and other CPC and state leaders. Xi Jinping and other persons presented winners with awards. Li Keqiang addressed the Conference on behalf of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.
The “key technologies and equipment for precise numerical-control machining of complicated profile modification gear” directed by Professor Wang Shilong of Chongqing University and “theory and key technology for win resistance and disaster prevention of large-scale roof and enclosure system and their engineering application” directed by Professor Yang Qingshan of the School of Civil Engineering both won the second national prize for progress in science and technology. Professor Wang Shilong and Professor Yang Qingshan attended the Conference as winner representatives, and were received by the CPC and state leaders and took photos with them.
The Project titled “key technologies and equipment for precise numerical-control machining of complicated profile modification gear” completed by 7 organizations including Chongqing Machine Tool (Group) Co., Ltd. and CN Gpower Gearbox Co., Ltd., with Chongqing University as the leading organization. This Project aimed to tackle common and key technological problems with respect to core basic parts of important equipment in engineering areas like shipbuilding, wind power, aviation and vehicles of

. Through more than 10 years of dedicated hardworking, the research group has proposed new method for point vector group envelope calculation, and has invented methods of tooth face distortion reduction and gear making system error regulation. Furthermore, the team has developed three typical gear making machine tools, namely the large-specification precision gear hobbing machine, high-speed dry-cutting gear hobbing machine and precision gear grinding machine, thus realizing coordinated hobbing and grinding process. The typical gear making tools developed by the team have ended the monopoly of this area by foreign companies, and are included in the list of suppliers of top-grade numerically-controlled machine tool for the military industry of
China
. Its achievements have been disseminated and applied in more than 30 gear manufacturers. It does not only contribute to national defense construction like aircraft carriers, destroyer leader and submarines, but also provides guarantee for mass localized production of automobile transmissions, wind power facilities and engineering machinery. The technologies in the gear sector have thus been boosted substantially.
The Project titled “theory and key technology for win resistance and disaster prevention of large-scale roof and enclosure system and their engineering application” has been completed jointly by 7 organizations, including Beijing Jiaotong University, MCC and Chongqing University. This Project aimed to tackle problems in the international wind engineering and structural engineering area related to wind resistance of large roof and its enclosure system. Systematic researches have been carried out by the research team since 1996. Marked achievements have been made in areas such as wind-induced action mechanism of large roofs, wind effect analyzing theory, determination method of designed wind load, technical measures of wind resistance of roof system and testing and evaluation methods. Academic achievements of the research project have been applied in more than 200 key projects including the Olympic stadiums, high-speed railway station housing, Olympic Sports Centers, exhibition centers, terminals and large industrial buildings of many provinces, as well as the National Convention Center, the Grand National Theatre and the APEC Summit Center. This research group has published 150 SCI and EI indexed papers and its research findings have been included in 14 standards, with noticeable social benefits.
