On July 10, the Science and Technology Innovation and Talent Work Conference of Chongqing was held. Yuan Jiajun, a member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, Wang Zhigang, Secretary of the Party Group and Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Hu Henghua, Mayor of Chongqing Municipality and Deputy Secretary of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, showed up at the event and presented award-winner representatives with the awards. Shu Lichun, Secretary of CPC CQU Committee, and Wang Shuxin, President of CQU, attended the meeting. Liu Hanlong, Managing Vice President of Chongqing University, accepted the prize as the winner of the Award for Outstanding Science and Technology Contribution. As a leading organization, Chongqing University wins 10 first prizes of 2022 Chongqing Science and Technology Award, accounting for 40% of the total number of first prizes in Chongqing.
At the meeting, Wang Shuxin delivered a speech titled "Upholding integrated development of education and science & technology talents to promote synergetic progress of high-quality talent nurturing and high-level scientific and technological innovation". In his speech, Wang Shuxin said that Chongqing University will further implement the strategic deployment that attaches equal importance to education, science & technology and talents, extensively involve itself in the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in west China, and expedite the "Double-First-Rate" construction. By making constant efforts to improve its school-running strengths and education quality, Chongqing University will provide all-round support to the four major scientific innovation focuses, i.e., digital & intelligent science and technology, life health, new materials and green & low-carbon development, serve and lead high-quality development of modernized new Chongqing.
The achievements with Chongqing University as the first organization in charge and CQU teachers as the first person in charge won 9 first prizes, including:
Four prizes of the Natural Science Award. The first persons in charge are respectively Professor Deng Wei from the School of Life Science, Professor Nie Baisheng from the School of Resources and Safety Engineering, Professor Wu Liang from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professor Jia Yunjian from the School of Microelectronics and Communication Engineering.
Two prizes of the Technical Invention Award. The first persons in charge are respectively Professor Liao Qiang from the School of Energy and Power Engineering and Researcher Chen Bingkui from the State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Transmissions, Chongqing University.
Three prizes of the Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement. The first persons in charge are respectively Professor Liu Huaiju from the State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Transmissions, Chongqing University, Professor Yao Runming from the School of Civil Engineering, and Professor Wu Yongzhong from Chongqing University Cancer Hospital.
The achievements with the cooperation organization as the first organization in charge and CQU teachers as the first person in charge won 1 first prize of the Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement. The first person in charge is Professor Liu Gang from the School of Civil Engineering.
Furthermore, CQU teachers, as the first persons in charge, won 8 second prizes, including 4 second prizes of the Natural Science Award and 4 second prizes of the Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement.
It is reported that the 2022 Chongqing Science and Technology Award includes 24 prizes of Natural Science Award, 7 prizes of the Technical Invention Award, 69 prizes of the Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement, and 10 prizes of the Enterprise Technological Innovation Award.
In the selection of 2021 Chongqing Science and Technology Award, Professor Liu Hanlong from the School of Civil Engineering, Managing Vice President of Chongqing University, was given the Award for Outstanding Science and Technology Contribution. Chongqing University won 15 first prizes as the first organization in charge. The achievements with Chongqing University as the first organization in charge and CQU teachers as the first person in charge won 14 first prizes, including, accounting for 43.8% of the total first prizes granted to organizations in Chongqing, hitting a historic high. The achievements with the cooperation organization as the first organization in charge and CQU teachers as the first person in charge won 1 first prize. Chongqing University won another 12 second prizes and 1 third prize as the first organization in charge.
In recent years, Chongqing University has been earnestly studying and implementing the important discussion on scientific and technological innovation of President Xi Jinping by giving full play to its important role as a major force for basic research and a source of major scientific and technological breakthroughs, making bold innovation in its scientific research organization and management mode, strengthening organizational, systematic scientific research innovation, expediting the building of the strategic scientific and technological strength of China, and actively solving "bottleneck" problems, in an effort to serve the independent development of high-level science and technology.
