Jiang Xingliang wins the 2017 Masoud Farzaneh Award

The 17th International Workshop on Atmospheric Icing of Structures (IWAIS) is open in Chongqing on September 25, 2017. More than 200 representatives come to the Workshop from all over the world. The Masoud Farzaneh Award presentation ceremony is held on September 26. As a representative, Mr. Me Guy Wells, chairman of University of Quebec Foundation, presents Professor Jiang Xingliang of CQU the 2017 Masoud Farzaneh, in recognition of his considerable contribution to the scientific research of the impact of high voltage engineering and atmosphere icing on power grid and student cultivation. Professor Wang Shilong, vice president of Chongqing University, is also present at the ceremony and has delivered a speech.

The Masoud Farzaneh Award was established by the University of Quebec in 2010 as a tribute to Professor Masoud Farzaneh, a scientific of remarkable contributions to the research of power distribution and transmission in cold regions on the international level. Professor Masoud Farzaneh is an IET fellow, IEEE fellow and an academician of the Engineering Technology Institute and Canadian Academy  of Engineering. Thanks to his remarkable contribution and influence, the University of Quebec has been playing a world leading role in the area. The Award is issued once every two years, and the candidates are nominated by the University of Quebec   Foundation, among which one winner will be selected. The winner must be a person who has made huge contribution to the research of high-voltage engineering and power distribution and transmission technology applicable to cold regions. The trophy of the Masoud Farzaneh Award is a piece of exquisite artwork designed by Giuseppe Benedetto, a well-known artist. It is of an abstract artist form and represents the era, innovation and retrospect. The glass figurine used as the trophy is composed of the pyramid shaped support and the crystal disk, which respectively symbolize the poles and insulators used in the power transmission works.

The Masoud Farzaneh Award includes a domestic one and an international one. In even-numbered years, the Award is issued to scientists of remarkable contribution in this field in Canada . In odd-numbered years, the Award is issued to scientists and engineering technical experts that have made great contribution in the field on the international level. This has been the fourth international Masoud Farzaneh Award and Professor Jiang is the first scientist and engineering technician in China that has won this Award. The winners of the first three international awards are respectively Professor K. D. Srivastava of UBC University, Svein M. Fikke, a chief meteorologist of Norway , and Lasse J. Makkonen, a chief engineer of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.
