CQU holds 1st International Symposium on Advanced Structural Materials–Design,Characterization and Processing

The 1st International Symposium on Advanced Structural Materials–Design, Characterization and Processing is held in Shapingba, Chongqing from November 12 to 15, 2017. The Symposium is sponsored by the “111 Program” Base for Advanced Material Genome Characterization and Regulation of Chongqing University, and the School of Material Science and Engineering of CQU. Professor Huang Xiaoxu, director of the 111 Program Base chairs the Symposium. More than 160 persons including the foreign masters of the 111 Program Base, the research cadres of the Base and teachers and students from related areas attend the Symposium.

The opening ceremony is held on the morning of November 13. Vice President Liu Hanlong delivers a speech on behalf of Chongqing University. Liu Hanlong extends his sincere welcome to the scholars, experts and researchers from home and abroad, and points out that the materials science and engineering discipline is one of the most important disciplines of Chongqing University, and the structural metallic material program of Chongqing University has a history of nearly 80 years, with remarkable achievements made in R&D of new materials, characterization analysis if microstructure and preparation and processing, posing significant impact on the basic research and engineering application areas at home and abroad. In recent years, the “111 Program” Base for Advanced Material Genome Characterization and Regulation has provided funds for Chongqing  University to carry out joint research with international high-level research institutions and well-known scholars. The Symposium is a high-level academic event organized by the 111 Program Base, and it will push forward the progress and development of Chongqing University in material science discipline. Liu adds that he holds a firm belief that the Symposium will become an important event for future international cooperation, and the involvement of the experts is a guarantee for great success of the 111 Program.

 

Related officials from the Office of Science and Technology, the Office of International Cooperation and Communication, the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Materials Science and Engineering are also among the attendants.

 

After the opening ceremony, 24 experts deliver impressive and high-level academic speeches, and have in-depth discussion with the attendant representatives. Those who have delivered a speech or chaired the speech include: Professor Dorte Juul Jensen, a fellow of Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, Professor Lu Ke, an academician of Chinese Academy of Science, Professor Niels Hansen, an NAE member, and a member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Liu Qing, a Yangtze River Scholar of Chongqing University and an outstanding youth, Professor Nie Jianfeng and Professor Huang Xiaoxu from CQU, experts under the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, Professor Andrew Godfrey from Tsinghua University, Professor Nobuhiro Tsuji from Kyoto University, Professor Hans J. Roven, a fellow of Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences, Professor Robert Sanders of CQU under the Recruitment Program of Global Experts and Professor Malcolm James Couper from Monash University.

On the morning of November 15, experts of the 111 Program Base from home and abroad have discussion over Base related work and deploy major tasks of 2018 in the Electric Mirror Central Conference Room of Chongqing University.
