Vice President of Queen's University Belfast visits Chongqing University

A delegation of 11 persons led by Professor Mark Price, vice president Queen's University Belfast, visit Chongqing University on March 26, 2018. Liu Renlong, secretary of CPC Committee of the School of Chemical Engineering, Lin Mingjin, dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhang Zhiqing, vice dean of CQU-UC Joint Co-op Institute, Huang Yong, vice dean of the School of Big Data and Software, Zhang Chuan, vice dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Ye Kunhui, vice dean of the School of Construction Management and Real Estate, and Huang Xiaojun, vice dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, are present at the meeting, accompanied by other related workers. Zhang Zhiqing presides over the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Zhang Zhiqing extends his sincere welcome to the visitors, followed by a brief introduction to the basic condition of Chongqing University. Zhang states that the Queen’s University Belfast is an old friend of Chongqing University and has visited Chongqing University a number of times. The two have been cooperating with each other extensively in academic exchange and cooperative education. He hopes that the two universities would deepen the mutual cooperation taking this opportunity.

After that, the two parties have in-depth discussion with respect to affairs related to cooperative education programs. The two parties have agreed to run cooperative education programs between the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Big Data and Software Engineering, and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the School of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Computer and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Queen’s University Belfast. In addition, they have discussed and organized the specific terms of cooperative education agreement. At the meeting, related policies on declaration, evaluation and monitoring of cooperative education programs are reorganized and the declaration plan for cooperative education programs of the two universities discussed. Apart from that, the two universities have exchanged in-depth ideas about other cooperation projects such as “4+1” and “4+2”.

Mark Price shows great satisfaction about the discussion results of the meeting. He says that he has confidence in the cooperative education programs between Chongqing University and the Queen’s University Belfast, and expresses his hope that the two universities may seek for cooperation opportunities in other areas such as oversea study of postgraduates, teacher exchange, student exchange and summer programs.

Other members of the delegation include Professor Stan Scott, director of the Department of International Affairs, Ms. Claire McAlinden, director of the Operation Department, Professor David Rooney, vice president and the ambassador to China, Professor Kang Li, the responsible person for international affairs of the School of Electrical Engineering, Professor Jianfei Chen of the School of Nature and Constructional Engineering (Civil Engineering), Dr. Meilan Huang from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Ms. Carole Maslowski, the international affairs manager, Dr. Fumin Huang, the responsible person for international affairs of the School of Mathematics and Physics, Dr. Yan Jin, the responsible person for international affairs of the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Mr. Xiaoshuai Chen, the student ambassador for CQU-Queen’s University Belfast 2+2 Program (mechanical engineering).

The Queen’s University Belfast was founded in 1845 and is now one of the top universities in the UK and also one of the top 100 universities in the world. As a top-level public research university well-known in Europe, the University has a Medical School and Engineering School that are among the best in the UK and Ireland . Meanwhile, the School of Commerce and School of Management of the University also rank among the best ones throughout Ireland. The University is located in Belfast , the capital of North Ireland, and is one of the oldest universities in the UK and Ireland .
