Forum on AI and Information Security held by School of Computer Science

In this era featuring rapid development of the computer industry, artificial intelligence and information security have gradually become the two toughest challenges facing this sector. The “Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Information Security” sponsored by the School of Computer Science of Chongqing University opened as scheduled at 2:30pm on October 20, 2018 in the Minzhu Lake Lecture Hall, Campus A, Chongqing University. Invited experts, officials and representatives of the Human Resources Office of Chongqing University and related schools of the Faculty of Information Technology, officials and honored guests specialized in computer related disciplines from organizations such as Southwest University, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Chongqing Normal University, Chongqing Jiaotong University, Chongqing Technology and Business University, Chongqing University of Technology and Chongqing University of Education are present at the event.

Xiong Zhongyang, secretary of CPC Committee of the School of Computer Science, has presided at the opening ceremony. Professor Liao Xiaofeng, dean of the School, has addressed the opening ceremony. Professor Liao extended his sincere and welcome to the experts and scholars present at the Forum, and wished the Forum a great success. He has pointed out that artificial intelligence and information security have become the major driving forces of innovation development. Given the trend of digital, network-based and intelligent development, this Forum is being held to enhance academic exchange and spark new ideas. After the brief speech, the experts took a group photo together.

The academic forum is chaired by Professor Xiao Pu from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Others invited to the Forum include Professor Shu Jiwu from Tsinghua University, Professor Zhangjun from South China University of Technology and Professor Chen Xiaofeng from Xidian University, and domestic experts engaged in artificial intelligence and information security. All of them will have discussion about artificial intelligence and information security and share their research findings. Undergraduates and postgraduates studying computer science and related teachers, and deans and deputy deans of the schools of computer science of other colleges and universities in Chongqing are also present at the event. This event is an academic feast for experts and scholars.

Professor Shu Jiwu from the Department of Computer of Tsinghua University was the first one to make a presentation. His presentation is titled “construction of high-efficiency storage system based on new-type devices”. With successive emergence of the Internet of Things, e-business and artificial intelligence, the big data storage technology is forced to go through profound reform. Professor Shu has pointed out several deficiencies in traditional storage system construction modes, and proposed a new approach to re-design of related storage system software. His presentation also includes expectation on the possible construction scheme of the next-generation data centers based on the framework of the industry.

After that, Zhang Jun, dean of the School of Science and Engineering Science of South China University of Technology, delivered a speech titled “reconsideration of artificial intelligence”. Professor Zhang used actual examples and interacted actively with the audiences. His humorous wording and witty comments have amused the students and experts. Professor Zhang also introduced the artificial intelligence to students in simple terms from the perspective of philosophy. This won roars of applause of the audiences.

Zhao Yao, director of the Research Center for Cyberspace Security of Beijing Jiaotong University, delivered a speech titled “weakly supervised image semantic segmentation based on deep learning”. In the speech, Zhao focused on some of his research findings in weakly supervised image semantic segmentation based on deep learning. The vivid and detailed description allowed the students to have certain understanding of deep learning.

Professor Zhang Xiaosong from the School of Computer of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China delivered a speech titled “security threat of machine learning algorithm and countermeasures”. In the speech, Professor Zhang analyzed the causes of security threats of machine learning and their possible countermeasures.

Professor He Daojing from East China Normal University and Professor Chen Xiaofeng from Xidian University were the last two to deliver speeches. Their speeches are respectively titled “security guard system and key technologies for the Internet of Things” and “cloud computation security”.

At 6:00pm, the Forum was brought to a successful end. The Minzhu Lake Lecture Hall has been filled with heated discussion and roars of applause. Even the passages were jammed with concentrated students. The teachers and students that have attended the Forum were benefit tremendously. This Forum has facilitated the exchange and cooperation between peers of various colleges and universities engaged in computer science. The theory and latest findings in artificial intelligence and information security exhibited at the Forum were well received by the audiences. At the same time, the fascinating presentations made by experts allowed the attendants to understand that there are still a lot to explore in related areas. It is agreed that as part of the “Double-First-Rat” construction, the construction of information disciplines will be a long-term, arduous task. We should remain motivated act as the shock trooper of the age.
