CQU-run Nano Materials Science issues its 1st volume

Nano Materials Science (NMS), an English journal run by Chongqing University under supervision of the Ministry of Education issued its first volume in March 2019. Academician Lyu Jian from City University of Hong Kong has been appointed as the editor in chief. The journal has full open access to ScienceDirect Database of Elsevier. It focuses mainly on latest research achievements in areas such as preparation and processing of nano-structure materials and nano-function materials, genetic representation of materials, evaluation of material performance and its application, as well as design, preparation, processing, evaluation and application of nanometer devices. The journal is going to be built as a high-standard journal in the nano material area, and provides an international academic communication platform for scholars in this area.

NMS has appointed 129 top scholars from 19 countries including China, the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Singapore and Japan to form the Editorial Board. There are 16 academicians, including Academician Lyu Jian, Academician Fang Daining, Academician Guo Wanlin, Academician Zhang Tongyi and Academician Wei Yueguang specialized in the nano-structure material, Academician Gao Wei specialized in nano-surface technology, Academician Ruslan Z Valiev, Academician Niels Hansen and Academician Dorte Juul Jensen specialized in metallic material, Academician Yiu-Wing Mai in structural composites, Academician Wang Qi specialized in high polymer materials, Academician Zhou Ji specialized on inorganic non-metal, Academician Cheng Huiming specialized in carbon nanomaterials, Professor Rodney S Ruoff specialized in graphene and Academician Zhang Ze specialized in material science and crystal texture.

The papers included in the first volume include the inauguration statement by Editor in Chief Lyu Jian, the long review on nano composite by Professor Fu Shaoyun and Professor Hu Ning from Chongqing University, both highly-cited scholars of Elsevier, a review on graphene by Professor Luyi Sun from University of Connecticut, a research paper on microwave absorption property of TiO2 nano particle by Professor Xiaobo Chen from UMKC, the research paper on lithium ion battery by Professor Yan Cheng from Queensland University of Technology, and the research paper on electro-catalysis CO2 emission reduction by Professor Peng Zhangquan from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor Peng is also a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

As part of the efforts to “promote construction of high-standard academic journals” and in response to requirements of the “13th Five-year Plan” Development Planning for Academic Journals of Chongqing University (2016 to 2020), the Periodical Press has been actively exploring collaborative journal running modes with academic teams. In the preparation stage of NMS, under the lead of Academician Lyu Jian, who served as the editor in chief, associate editors and other members of the Editorial Board such as Dean Hu Ning and Professor Fu Shaoyun from the School of Aerospace Engineering, Dean Huang Xiaoxu and Professor Zhang Yuxin from the School of Material Sciences and Engineering, Dean Wei Zidong from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Dean Li Jian from the School of Electrical Engineering have contributed both time and energy and offered their valuable opinions with respect to paper acquisition, arrangement, publicizing and popularizing of the journal. This has laid a solid foundation for future construction and development of the journal. With substantial support of the University, devoted hardworking of the Editorial Board of NMS, and joint efforts made by editors of the Periodical Press, the Journal of Chongqing University (English version) was renamed as Nano Materials Science in December 2018. In March 2019, the first volume of NMS was issued as its first international professional volume. This is regarded as another milestone achieved by Chongqing University in construction of high-standard international academic journals after the inclusion of Journal of Magnesium and Alloys in SCIE in 2018. This also contributes to building of international academic communication platform, enhancing the international academic influence and “Double-First-Rate” construction of Chongqing University.
