On the morning of May 13, 2019, the opening ceremony of the “National Mainstream Network Media Visiting Colleges and Universities of Chongqing” of 2019 was held at Chongqing University. Ren Yanbing, deputy director of Chongqing Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, Qin Zhengjie, full-time deputy secretary of the Education Working Committee of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, head of the publicizing department of colleges and universities in Chongqing, and editors and journalists of more than 30 mainstream network media from all over China, attended the opening ceremony. Zhou Qiuhan, president of CQNEWS Group and editor in chief, presided at the ceremony.
Zhou Xun, secretary of CPC CQU Committee, extended his warm welcome to journalists of the mainstream network media. Zhou encouraged the journalists to attend classes, and visit labs and front line of management of Chongqing University to experience the extraordinary school running tradition and excellent school spirit and study style of Chongqing University for 90 years, and to appreciate the contributions made by previous officials, teachers and students to the University and to China.
Heated atmosphere at the opening ceremony
“I cannot tolerate a moment of separation from my motherland.” Students and teachers of Chongqing University were singing a soulful song, which raised the curtain of the large-scale convergence media interview named “2019 National Mainstream Network Media Visiting Colleges and Universities of Chongqing”.
Wang Xu, deputy secretary of CPC CQU Committee, stated in his speech that Chongqing University had been sticking to “diligence, simplicity, hardworking and patriotism” as its motto since its founding. It has been fully utilizing resources of Chongqing, and building its influence across southwest China and even west China, in an effort to serve the entire country and even the whole world. It has been playing an important role in promoting the national and local eco-social development. Wang added that Chongqing University was about to celebrate its 90th Anniversary, and would further broaden its international horizon, and establish a global view and strategic thoughts. It would also concentrate efforts on strengthening awareness of first-rate benchmarking, pursuit of excellence, serving development and leading the future. Chongqing University would continue to collaborate with other organizations to expedite its construction of a world-first-rate university with Chinese characteristics.
Yang Dan, managing vice president of Chongqing University, gave a view of the history and reform of Chongqing University from 6 aspects, including talent nurturing, disciplinary construction, scientific and technological innovation, teaching staff construction, international cooperation on education and development of social service. Yang pointed out that Chongqing University “would seize this opportunity to achieve development and forge ahead against any obstacles”.
Qin Zhengjie, full-time deputy secretary of the Education Working Committee of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, is giving an introduction to the higher education development of Chongqing.
Li Chunyan, secretary of CPC Committee and chairman of CQNEWS Group, said that as a responsible mainstream media, CQNEWS had always attached importance to education promotion and public opinion guiding.
Zhang Chunming, editor in chief of China Education News Network, stated in the speech delivered on behalf of all media that 2019 is the 90th Anniversary of Chongqing University. She said “happy birthday” to Chongqing University on behalf of the journalists present, and expressed her hope that the media would cooperate mutually during this event to better promote education and tell better stories about education.

First impression of Chongqing University
After the opening ceremony, the Chongqing University Workshop under the 2019 “National Mainstream Network Media Visiting Colleges and Universities in Chongqing” was held. Hu Xuebin, head of the Publicizing Department of CPC CQU Committee, and a standing member of CPC CQU Committee, presided at the Workshop. Kang Zhiping, deputy dean of the Institute of Advanced Disciplinary Studies, Luo Yuanxin, deputy director of the Teaching Affairs Office, Wu Hao, deputy head of the Department of Student Affairs, and Zhang Lei, deputy director of the Office of Social Science, respectively delivered speeches on scientific research serving local development, construction of new engineering courses, ideological and political education cultivating talents and consultation services.
Responsible persons of related functional departments of Chongqing University had heated discussion and communication with journalists of more than 30 mainstream media of China. Journalists raised various questions from different perspectives regarding “double-first-rate construction”, new engineering courses, talent nurturing and three-full talent cultivation, to get a better understanding of Chongqing University.
Journalists visited different campuses of Chongqing University to gain deeper understanding
On the afternoon, editors in chief and journalists of more than 30 mainstream media including people.com.cn, Kwangmyong, China Education News Network and ChinaDaily.com visited Campus A, Campus B and Huxi Campus of Chongqing University in “3 different groups”, in an effort to gain deeper understanding of Chongqing University’s key labs, practical courses and dorms, and experience the excellent talent nurturing atmosphere.
In Campus A, journalists paid a visit to the History Museum of Chongqing University, Center of Space Exploration, Ministry of Education, State Key Lab of Mechanical Transmission, Chongqing University, Maker Center of CCYL Committee, State Key Lab of Coal Mine Disaster Dynamics and Control and State Key Lab of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security and New Technology, and were greatly impressed by the considerable strength of Chongqing University in engineering courses.
During the visit to Campus B, the network media journalists were amazed by the themed exhibition center on “strengthening morality and cultivating talents” initiated by Chongqing University. Texts, pictures, real objects and multi-media means were used in combination to express the silent devotion of CQU teachers to education and teaching, and their lofty personality charm and astonishing patriotism, and to show the sincere initial intention of Chongqing University to cultivate talents for China and for the people of China.
The journalists also visited practical classrooms, and came to the site of cross-disciplinary and cross-specialty joint graduation project launched by the Faculty of Architecture at 14/F, No. 2 Comprehensive Building, Campus B. Journalists got to know that the University was developing students’ ability to use the architectural “full-process” design method through diversified teaching modes, so as to achieve interdisciplinary and cross-specialty collaboration. At the site of construction season, journalists visited the works of different groups and were amazed by the novel design thoughts of students. They also paid a visit to the Key Laboratory of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region ' s Eco-Environment , Ministry of Education and Key Lab of New Technology for Construction of Cities in Mountain Area, and got to know the considerable contributions made by Chongqing University to social and economic development of Chongqing they did not know before.
At Huxi Campus, journalists were introduced to the planning and construction of Huxi Campus by Xi Zhining, director of the Management Committee of Huxi Campus and assistant to president of Chongqing University. They paid a visit to the Electronic Microscope Center of Chongqing, and were introduced to the representative achievements made by the Electronic Microscope Center of Chongqing University by Professor Huang Xiaoxu, dean of the School of Material Science and Engineering, and the specially appointed professor Tang Wenxin of the Center.
Journalists also paid a visit to the Analysis and Testing Center and the School of Life Science and got to know the efforts made by Chongqing University in serving the society and contributing to the country by developing science and technology. At No. 1 Songyuan House, journalists experienced the diversified campus life of CQU students, and they also experienced the vitality of the youthful campus at Songyuan Book House and Huangjue Book House.
Some journalists exclaimed that: “You would fall in love with Chongqing University at the first sight of it. The old campuses are featured by its profound cultural deposits while the new one is modern and beautiful. I’m quite impressed by the romantic Yunhu Lake, energetic Maker Center, and futuristic Center of Space Exploration, elegant campus environment and powerful teaching staff of this university. Chongqing University is not only good at nurturing talents. It also has admirable characteristics.”
More than 30 mainstream media reported on the 90th Anniversary of Chongqing University by means of live streaming, picture-text reports, and innovative coverage media such as H5. This has resulted in a gratifying publicizing effect. As of May 14, 2019, the mainstream media have devoted more than 100 articles to the visit to Chongqing University.
