On the morning of January 7, 2020, Chongqing University held the Meeting of Teachers and Cadres in the Minzhuhu Lecture Hall of Campus A. Wang Weiping, director of the Economy, Technology and Education Cadre Bureau of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, was entrusted by officials of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and announced the decision of the CPC Central Committee on the appointment and removal of the secretary of the CPC Chongqing University Committee: Comrade Shu Lichun was appointed as the secretary of the CPC Chongqing University Committee (vice ministerial level). Comrade Zhou Xun was transferred to another position due to work needs.
Zheng Fuzhi, a member of the Party Group and vice minister of the Ministry of Education, and Hu Wenrong, a standing member of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and head of the Organization Department appeared at the meeting and delivered speeches. Zhang Zongyi, president of Chongqing University, presided over the meeting.
In his speech, Mr. Wang Weiping spoke highly of Comrade Zhou Xun’s contribution to the reform and development of Chongqing University, and gave a brief introduction to Comrade Shu Lichun. He expressed his hope that the university officials would reach a consensus on the spirit of the Central Committee, unite and lead the staff and students of the whole university, and adhere to the guidance of the socialist ideology of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era as proposed by President Xi Jinping, and conscientiously implement the education policy advocated by CPC in the new era. We should work hard to create a new situation for the development of our University.
In his speech, Zheng Fuzhi said that the Party Group of the Ministry of Education was in full support of the decision of the CPC Central Committee. On behalf of the Party Group of the Ministry of Education, he put forward three requirements for the work of Chongqing University. First, Chongqing University should adhere to and strengthen CPC’s overall leadership over the University, and improve the CPC’s overall leadership system. Second, Chongqing University should speed up the pace of "Double First-rate" construction and concentrate efforts on reform and development in the new era. Third, CQU should prioritize political construction and strive to build a strong and powerful leading group.
Hu Wenrong said that Secretary Chen Min’er of the municipality was highly concerned about the development of Chongqing University. He visited the University many times and delivered reports on the situation and policies for teachers and students, and called for strong support for the construction of the University. Hu Wenrong, on behalf of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, put forward three requirements. First, Chongqing University should take a clear political stand and resolutely uphold the decisions of the Central Committee. Second, Chongqing University should expedite the "Double First-rate" construction and take the lead to improve the level of higher education in Chongqing. Third, Chongqing University should give full play to its own advantages and better serve the development of Chongqing.
Zhou Xun expressed his firm support for the decision of the Central Committee and welcomed Comrade Shu Lichun back to Chongqing University as the party secretary. He said that since he started to work for Chongqing University, he has worked together with members of the leading group, teachers and students like a family and has witnessed the rapid development and advancement of the University. Zhou said that he would continue to pay attention to and strongly support the development of Chongqing University and expressed his best wish for Chongqing University!
Shu Lichun expressed his firm support for and obedience to the decision of the CPC Central Committee. He expressed his determination to devote himself to his work after Secretary Zhou Xun, conscientiously fulfill the responsibility of the first person responsible for party construction, "educate people for the party and the country", perform the basic task of cultivating talents by virtue, and expedite the "Double First-rate" construction. He added that he would work with President Zhang Zongyi and his colleagues unremittingly, and guide the teachers and students to build Chongqing University into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics!
On behalf of all teachers and students, Zhang Zongyi extended heart-felt thanks and high respect to Secretary Zhou Xun and warmly welcomed Secretary Shu Lichun back to Chongqing University. He said he would work with the University’s leadership and fully cooperate with Comrade Shu Lichun’s work. He also expressed his hope that all teachers and students of the University would reach a unified ideological understanding of the decision of the CPC Central Committee, promote the overall development of the University’s education, and take root in China to provide satisfactory education for the people.
Officials from the Economy, Technology and Education Cadre Bureau of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Education, the officials of relevant departments in Chongqing and members of the University’s leading group, recently retired CQU officials, cadres of or above the deputy department level, teachers’ representatives, retired and other staff representatives also attended the meeting.
