Chongqing University rises in World-first-rate Discipline Ranking

On June 29, Shanghai Ranking released the “World-first-rate Discipline Ranking” of 2020. The 2020 Ranking involved 54 disciplines in 5 areas including the science, engineering, life science, medicine and social science. Shanghai Ranking evaluated more than 4,000 colleges.

There was a rise of Chongqing University in the Ranking. Specifically, totally 21 disciplines of Chongqing University were included in the Ranking, and 13 disciplines performed better places than in the last year. Six disciplines of Chongqing University ranked among the top 50 disciplines (metallurgical engineering ranked the 12th place; instrument science ranked the 12th place; mineral engineering ranked the 17th place; mechanical engineering ranked the 39th place; civil engineering ranked the 44th place; and traffic engineering ranked the 49th place), 3 disciplines more than that in the last year. CQU ranks the 27th place in this regard among colleges and universities in mainland China, rising by 9 places year on year. Nine disciplines of Chongqing University ranked among the top 100 disciplines.

According to reports, Chongqing University has adhered to its connotative development since the implementation of the "Double First-Class" construction, and focused on discipline construction and scientific research innovation to promote the upgrading of disciplines and build superior discipline clusters. The three major discipline clusters of "smart energy", "advanced manufacturing" and "new urbanization" are regarded as the key to building the core competitiveness of world-class universities. In the future, Chongqing University will pay more attention to the connotative development of disciplines, encourage multidisciplines, highlight core competitive advantages, and further enhance the discipline level and the overall strength of the university.

It is known that there are 55 disciplines of 6 universities in Chongqing were included in the ranking, among which 6 disciplines rank in the top 50 and 11 disciplines rank in the top 100.
