From November 11 to 13, 2020, the China Steel Construction Conference and Shanxi Province Steel Structure Forum was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. More than 700 people, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, well-known scholars and experts, and also specialists from enterprises and public institutions at home and abroad, were present at the event. Zhou Xuhong, honorary chairman of the China Steel Construction Society delivered an invited speech titled Several Ideas on Intelligent Construction Techniques for Construction Projects.

The Project "key technique of cold-formed thin-walled steel structure multi-storey building and its application" developed by Professor Zhou Xuhong of Chongqing University won the special award for science and technology of China Steel Construction Society. In view of the technical bottleneck in the development of cold-formed thin-walled steel structure multi-storey housing, the project team, with the support of National Key R&D Program and National Natural Science Foundation of China, carried out in-depth and systematic research through enterprise-university-institute cooperation for 18 years. The team has adopted the research and development path of combining experimental research, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, process development and equipment integration, from basic components to structural system, from basic theory to design method and from factory manufacturing to onsite installation. The team eventually developed the key technology of cold-formed thin-walled steel structure multi-storey building. It is not only suitable for the construction of multi-storey residential buildings, but also suitable for the construction of multi-storey houses with various architectural functions such as sightseeing hotels, characteristic towns, teaching buildings and public buildings, and has achieved good economic and environmental benefits and social benefits.

At the event, “Yunshuiqi” Light Steel Guesthouse Project in Dali, Yunnan by the student team under guide of teachers of the School of Civil Engineering of CQU, and the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of CQU and CQUD Zhongteng Design Institute won the first award in the 2020 “Jinxi Cup” Steel Structure Innovation Competition for College Students sponsored by China Steel Construction Society after the preliminary competition and oral defense.

In addition, the awarding ceremony of the Highest Achievement Award in China’s Steel Construction Industry of 2020 was held during the event. The award went to Professor Chai Chang from MCC, an alumnus of 1955 of CQU. This award is reportedly co-sponsored by China Steel Construction Society in collaboration with MCC, Chongqing University, Tsinghua University, Rizhao Steel Holding Group Co., Ltd., and Anhui Honglu Steel Structure (Group) Co., Ltd. and is issued to Chinese and foreign experts with great contributions to the development of China’s steel construction industry.
