Academician Chen Xuexi from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences arrived at the School of Bioengineering of Chongqing University on the afternoon of March 26, 2021 upon invitation. During the visit, Chen delivered a lecture titled “Synthesis and application of biodegradable polymers” to students and teachers in Meeting Room 506 of the Main teaching Building. More than 100 teachers, postgraduate students and undergraduate students from the School of Bioengineering, the School of Life Sciences and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences were present to listen to the lecture. The lecture was presided over by Professor Cai Kaiyong from the School of Bioengineering.
In his lecture, Chen focused on the synthesis and industrialization of PLA and its application in bone fixation devices, tissue engineering scaffolds and drug carriers, and gave a view of the scientific problems and research progress of PLA degradable polymer materials. At the same time, Chen also described the research progress of the preparation of anti-tumor drugs/gene nanopreparations using polyamino acids as drug carriers, and shared his expectations for the related frontier basic research, pre-clinical animal experiment evaluation and commercial prospects.
After the lecture, Chen Xuesi and the teachers and students present had a discussion over the biomedical polymer materials. Chen answered questions raised by teachers and students. After that, Chen had in-depth exchanges with Cai Kaiyong on the disciplinary development, scientific research platform construction and postgraduate training of the School of Bioengineering. The lecture went on in a lively atmosphere, and teachers and students at the meeting generally said that they had benefited a lot.
