Academicians Bao Weimin and Zhu Guangsheng visit the School of Aerospace Engineering

On April 10, 2021, Academician Bao Weimin, chairman of the Technical Committee of China Aerospace Science & Technology, Academician Zhu Guangsheng from the First Research Institute and their companions visited the School of Aerospace Engineering of Chongqing University. They attended the seminar on disciplinary construction and offered their advice on the efforts made by the School in disciplinary construction. Zhang Zongyi, president of CQU met with Bao and Zhu. Liu Hanlong, vice president of CQU, appeared at the seminar and delivered a speech.

At 9:00am on April 10, Bao, Zhu and their companions arrived at the Science Building. They visited the Aerospace Lab of the School. Wan Ling, secretary of CPC Committee of the School, and Liu Zhanfang and Yao Jianyao, vice deans of the School, accompanied Bao and Zhu throughout the visit and gave an introduction to the construction of the Lab.

Liu delivered the opening speech at the seminar. In his speech, Liu extended his sincere and warm gratitude to the experts attending the seminar, and gave a view of the efforts made by Chongqing University in the “Double-first-rate University” construction and gave an introduction to Chongqing University. According to Liu, CQU is concentrating efforts on realizing connotation-based development, characteristic development and high-quality development during the “14th Five-year Plan”. Considering that aerospace is a key area with substantial development potential, Liu expressed his hope that Bao, Zhu and other experts would offer their advice on development direction of the aerospace discipline of the School to allow it to reach a higher stage of development. After that, Wan Ling gave an introduction to the basic condition of the School from perspectives including development history, disciplinary construction, scientific research and talent nurturing.

In the speech delivered by Bao Weimin, he focused on the inter-discipline characteristics in the aerospace area taking into consideration the engineering application in areas such as mechanics, electronics, information, propulsion, structures and materials, and shared his expectations on the technical development in large launch vehicle and deep space exploration. After that, Bao advised the School to build up a strategic platform to undertake national major projects of aerospace, and expressed his hope that the School could make achievements with CQU characteristics in the basic and frontier areas.

According to the speech of Zhu Guangsheng, the traditional division of labor is now unable to accommodate the rapid development of the aerospace area. In view of the explosive development of the schools of aerospace in colleges and universities of China, the universities and colleges shall seek collaboration based on their respective advantages and shortfalls and compete in a healthy manner. For this purpose, they shall find the right directions and highlight their characteristics. Zhu advised the School to focus on the application based on the existing research foundation, and cultivate all-round talents through integration and innovation.

After the end of the seminar, Zhang Zongyi, accompanied by Liu Hanlong, met with Bao Weimin and Zhu Guangsheng. The two sides exchanged ideas on cooperation in related areas.

Since the establishment of the School of Aerospace Engineering of CQU based on the mechanics, it has been devoted to cultivating high-quality specialized talents in mechanics and aerospace engineering, in an ultimate effort to drive the scientific and technological progress in aerospace and serve the economic development of China and Chongqing. The School shall take this opportunity to further refine its disciplinary directions and respond to the major demands of the country. With a characteristic disciplinary system built up based on the innovative research findings, the School is expecting leap-forward development in the “14 Five-year Plan” and contributing substantially to the construction of CQU as a “Double-first-rate University”.
