As a way to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of CPC, deepen practice-oriented talent cultivation and strengthen entrepreneurship and innovation education of students, the Chongqing Selection Final of 17th “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition for College Students was held at Chongqing University, 3 months after the launch of the Competition. Huang Yongyi, a member of the Party Group of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Youth League, and secretary of the Committee, Yang Kuixing, a member of the Party Group of Chongqing Federation of Social Sciences and vice chairman of the Federation, Hu Xuebin, a standing member of the CPC CQU Committee, head of the Department of Publicity and head of the Department of Faculty, and other officials and honored guests appeared at the event. Totally 953 teachers and students from 184 projects of 40 colleges and universities participated in the Selection Final as candidates.
Chongqing Selection Final of 17th “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition for College Students was co-sponsored by Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Youth League, Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, Chongqing Federation of Social Sciences, and Chongqing Students' Federation, and organized by Chongqing University. Since the Competition kicked off in March, after preliminary selection within the colleges and universities, more than 600 pieces of works recommended by 50 colleges and universities in Chongqing made it to the quarter-final of Chongqing, and after review of materials of the quarter final, 184 pieces of works from 40 colleges and universities of Chongqing, including Chongqing University and Southwest University, made it to Chongqing Selection Final.
The finalist works include reports on social investigations and academic papers on philosophy and social science, academic papers on natural science and scientific and technological invention works, cover many areas such as machinery and control, information technology, mathematics, life science, energy and chemical industry, philosophy, economy, society, law, education, and management. The works were divided into 8 defense groups and closed defense was adopted.
In order to organize this Competition in a satisfactory way, CQU has attached great importance to organization of the event. A specialized organizing committee was set up, including five working groups: competition group, conference affairs group, publicity group, support group and volunteer group. Meetings were held many times to promote the preparatory work. With the strong support of the President Office, the Propaganda Department of the CQU CPC Committee, the Security Department of the CQU CPC Committee, the Undergraduate School, the Department of Planning and Finance, the Logistics Management Department and other departments, and unremitting efforts of more than 400 volunteers, the event organization, venue arrangement, guest reception, volunteer service, logistics guarantee, and security turned out to be very successful , and were highly praised by the teachers and students.
It is reported that 17th “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition for College Student is a national mass competition event that plays a leading and demonstrating role, sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the All China Federation of Students and local governments, and jointly initiated by domestic famous universities and news media. Since the first competition was held in 1989, the "Challenge Cup" Competition has always adhered to the tenet of "science, genuine knowledge, hardworking, innovation, and bravery". It has played a positive role in promoting the growth of young innovative talents, deepening quality education in colleges and universities, and promoting economic and social development. It has had an extensive and positive impact on colleges and universities in China and even the society and is hailed as the "Olympic Games" of scientific and technological innovation for contemporary college students.
