The 6th National Symposium on Engineering Risk and Insurance Research was being held at Chongqing University from August 13 to 15, 2021. Under the guide of China Civil Engineering Society, this event was sponsored by the Engineering Risk and Assurance Research Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, and co-organized by Chongqing University, National Joint Engineering Research Center of Geohazards Prevention in the Reservoir Areas, Chongqing Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources, and Wuhan Guangyi Transportation Science and Technology Incorporated Company. National Institute of Natural Hazards, Arup, Kentop Civil Engineering, China Continent Property & Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd., Editorial Office of Geosicences, Shenzhen Feima Robotics Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Dongsui Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Jiangwei Times Science and Technology Co., Ltd., and the editorial offices of Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering (English version) and Journal of Mountain Science offered assistance.
Due to prevalence of COVID-19, this event was held both on line and off line. More than 100 researchers, experts and postgraduate students from over 40 colleges, universities and insurance and engineering organizations participated in the event in person; as of 11:00a.m. of August 15, more than 15,000 people participated in the online session of the event. The 6th National Symposium on Engineering Risk and Insurance Research has been held to provide a platform to further exchange the latest research findings and engineering practice experience in the engineering risk and assurance field.
Hua Jianmin, secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, presided at the opening ceremony of the event. There were 15 specially invited speeches and 16 invited speeches in total. Besides, 121 speeches were delivered at the 9 online sessions including special speeches, the Doctor and Master Forum, and Data Competition of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. There are also other forums including the Forum On The Construction Of First-Class English Journals In The Fields Of Tunnel And Underground Engineering Risk, Geotechnical And Geological Engineering, And Forum On The Teaching Reform Of Engineering Reliability And Risk Courses. The event covers topics such as earthquake landslide and geological disaster risk, earthquake liquefaction disaster and risk assessment, construction engineering quality potential defect liability insurance (IDI) practice, big data and machine learning risk prevention and control, wind disaster and marine engineering risk, intelligent management and control engineering risk, the risk of water conservancy and hydropower projects, the theory and practice of engineering insurance, and the forum for doctoral candidates and postgraduate students. Attendants had in-depth exchanges and discussions around the academic research field of engineering risk and insurance.
After the opening ceremony, the special academic speeches were delivered at the main sessions and parallel sessions successively as guided by Academician Chen Xiangsheng. The experts and researchers benefited a lot from the academic speeches.
At the event, Chen Xiangsheng advocated a three-dimensional resilient city system composed of resilient town, resilient city and intelligent resilience management based on holographic perception. In his speech, Chen pointed out that building a super resilient city is of great significance to the future development of the city. When disasters or emergencies strike the city, whether the resilient city is able to perceive them, respond quickly to them, recover quickly and maintain the basic normal operation of the city and properly deal with future disaster risks through self-regulation is very important for safety of a city. Chen also shared the solutions and ideas for cities when facing various disasters in the future.

By the morning of August 15, the academic speeches of the 6th National Symposium on Engineering Risk and Insurance Research had been all completed with success.
The closing ceremony of the event was held after the speech sessions. Prof. Zhang Dongmei from Tongji University presided at the closing ceremony, at which the list of winners of the ISSMGE Data Competition and Doctor and Master Forum was announced. In addition, an introduction was given to the organizer applicants for the 7th National Symposium on Engineering Risk and Insurance Research. The 7th National Symposium on Engineering Risk and Insurance Research is expected to be held in 2023 in Nanchang.
