The Power Electronics Society (PELS) has announced the winner of the Best Paper Award 2020 of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics (IEEE TPEL), a flagship journal, the other day. The journal published a total of 1,148 papers in 2020. Four papers are given the First Place Prize Paper Award and six are given the Second Place Prize Paper Award.
The team of Professor Luo Quanming from the School of Electrical Engineering received the Best Paper Award (Second Place Prize). The basic information on the paper is as follows: Y. Wei, Q. Luo and A. Mantooth, “Overview of Modulation Strategies for LLC Resonant Converter,” in IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, vol. 35, no. 10, pp. 10423-10443, Oct. 2020, doi: 10.1109/TPEL.2020.2975392.
LLC resonant converter is now widely used in areas such as vehicle charger, server power supply, and LED driver. Its modulation strategy would pose a direct impact on the parameter design and operation performance, which is the focus of attention of the academic and industrial sectors. The existing modulation strategies are reasonably classified, comprehensively compared and analyzed in terms of circuit complexity, control complexity and voltage gain range, based on the fundamental equivalent circuit model of LLC resonant converter and the future development trend is also discussed in the paper.
The IEEE TPEL Best Paper Award is issued at the award ceremony of IEEE ECCE in September every year. The Award is issued to papers published by the Journal that are of top writing quality with considerable academic contributions and potential application values in related fields. This Award is widely believed to be the top honor for academic papers of the power electronic technology area, and the first selection started in 2005. The awarded papers are selected out of paper published by the Journal in the previous year. The Review Committee is made up of members of the Editorial Board of IEEETPEL and well-known experts in power electronic technology from all over the world. The award winning papers are selected by the Review Committee through rounds of appraisal and voting, with a focus on originality and academic contributions of the papers.
