Prof. Hao Hong, academician of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering, appointed as visiting professor of CQU

Professor Hao Hong, academician of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering and John Curtin Distinguished Professor of Curtin University, was officially appointed as a visiting professor of Chongqing University. His appointment ceremony was held on the morning of October 18, 2021 in No. 1 Lecture Hall (Room 222) of Architecture Engineering Pavilion by the School of Civil Engineering. Professor Hao delivered an academic lecture titled “On the accuracy, reliability and controllability of impact tests of RC beams” at the ceremony.

The appointment ceremony was held both on line and off line. Yang Yongbin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Yukio Tamura, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yang Qingshan, dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Ma Ji, deputy secretary of CPC Committee of the School, Liu Meng, Yang Bo and Zhang Wengang, vice deans of the School, Wang Yuhang, director of the Structural Engineering Institute of Chongqing University, Wang Weiyong, director of the Institute of Disaster Prevention Engineering and teacher and student representatives of the School appeared at the event and listened to the wonderful lecture delivered by Professor Hao. Yang Bo presided over the ceremony.

At the event, Yang Qingshan delivered a speech and gave an introduction to the key research areas and research results of Professor Hao Hong. As an expert in structural explosion and impact resistance, structural earthquake resistance and structural health monitoring, Hao Hong has directed more than 50 foundation-supported projects and published more than 1,000 papers, including more than 600 SCI-indexed papers and more than 60 conference papers. He has been selected as a global "highly cited scholar" in the field of civil engineering in Elsevier Database. Yang Qingshan said that the appointment of Professor Hao Hong would effectively promote the development of CQU’s civil engineering disciplines and effectively improve the international influence of CQU’s civil engineering disciplines. After that, amid roars of applause, Yang Qingshan awarded Hao Hong the letter of appointment as a visiting professor of Chongqing University.

Yukio Tamura and Yang Yongbin also extended their welcome to Professor Hao, and expressed their hope that they would work closely in the future and contribute to the construction of the civil engineering discipline of Chongqing University. On behalf of academician Zhou Xuhong, Yang Qingshan expressed his welcome as well and expressed his expectations for in-depth cooperation and exchange in the future.

After the ceremony, Professor Hao Hong delivered an academic report. With a focus on the classic drop hammer impact experiment, Hao gave a detailed analysis of the dynamic problems of beam column structure under impact from the perspectives of experiment and numerical simulation. The audiences were deeply inspired and had active discussion with Professor Hao Hong. During the discussion, Yang Yongbin pointed out that the meticulousness and comprehensiveness of Professor Hao in research of the problems have a profound guiding significance for domestic scientific research. Hao Hong also said that China was rich in resources and talents and expressed his confidence that there would be better scientific research output in the future.
