CQU’s Wang Shaoming wins First Award in 6th “National Competition on Teaching of Basic Physics Courses for Young College Teachers”

From October 15 to 17, 2021, the Final of the 6th “Higher Education Cup” National Competition on Teaching of Basic Physics Courses for Young College Teachers is being held in Ludong University. Wang Shaoming from the School of Physics of Chongqing University participated in the Competition on behalf of colleges and universities in southwest China and won the First Award. Wang is the first teacher that has won the First Award in this Competition.

This Competition includes 3 stages, the provincial-level preliminaries, regional semi-finals and national final. The three best-performing teachers in the semi-finals were selected to participate in the national final. After the preliminary of Chongqing held in May and the semi-final of Southwest China held in June, Wang Shaoming made to the national final held in October. Totally 21 teachers from all over the country reached the final, which included 2 rounds of competition. The first round is the group competition, and only the first two best-performing teachers are qualified for the second round, where they compete for the First Award. After 2 days of fierce competition, Wang Shaoming won the First Award. At the ceremony, Wang delivered a speech on the “polarization of light and Marius’ law”, and showed his impressive teaching style as an award winner.

The teaching task of the basic course of college physics is undertaken by the School of Physics. Due to the considerable fundamental knowledge involved, great difficulty of teaching and extensive coverage of students of the course, the School and CQU have attached great importance to and gave substantial support to the construction of the teaching team and curriculum of the course. Utilizing resources of Teacher Teaching Development Center and the School of Physics, the School has carried out a number of activities such as "Seminar on Teaching of Public Basic Course under the Mentorship Program" and "Teaching Growth Plan for New Teachers", and strengthened the orderliness and openness of teaching research, with a focus on the cultivation of young teachers’ teaching ability. Wang Shaoming actively participated in various teaching training and discussion activities, and has now developed into an excellent lecturer of the course, and achieved gratifying results in various national competitions.

This Competition is co-held by the Steering Committee of Teaching of College Physics in Colleges and Universities under the Ministry of Education and the Physics Teaching Committee of Chinese Physical Society in an effort to further inspire and encourage young teachers to devote themselves to the teaching of basic course of physics, improve their teaching standard, and effectively solve problems with the “last mile” in dissemination of teaching reform achievements and their application to practical teaching. The Competition is the No. 1 competition on teaching of basic course of physics in colleges and universities of China.
