On November 18, 2021, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering respectively published the list of co-opted academicians of 2021. According to the list, Li Jie, an alumnus of Chongqing University, was co-opted as a CAS academician and other 3 CQU alumni, including Li Keqiang, Liu Jiaping and Zhu Hehua, were co-opted as CAE academicians.

Li Jie
Li studied at Chongqing University as a postgraduate student from 1982 to 1984, majoring in structural engineering, and obtained his master’s degree of engineering. In April 2013, Li was granted the honorary doctorate by Aalborg University, Kingdom of Denmark. He is currently a specially appointed professor of Tongji University and serves as president of Shanghai Institute of Disaster Prevention and Rescue.
Li has been engaged in research of structural engineering and disaster prevention of projects for a long time, and has made internationally influential research findings in his research of stochastic mechanics, engineering reliability theory and lifeline engineering. His achievements include the establishment of generalized probability density evolution equation for stochastic system analysis, solution to the reliability analysis of complex structures against disasters and establishment of seismic optimal design theory of engineering network based on network topology optimization. Li has published 5 academic monographs, and more than 400 papers in core journals at home and abroad, and has won Second National Prize for Natural Science once and Third National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology once as a main researcher. He has also won honorary titles including the National Outstanding Teacher (2001), the Labor Model of Shanghai (2004) and National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker (2012). In 2014, Li was granted the Freudenthal Medal, an award for academic achievements by ASCE, in recognition of his academic achievements in probability density evolution theory and reliability of large-scale infrastructure systems. In 2017, Li was elected as chairman of ICOSSAR.

Li Keqiang
Li got his master’s degree and doctor’s degree at the School of Automotive Engineering of Chongqing University. From 1988 to 1997, after obtaining his master’s degree, Li started to work as a teacher at the School of Automotive Engineering, Chongqing University, and was then appointed as associate professor and professor successively.
Li is currently a professor and a doctoral supervisor at the School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University and director of State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy. He is also doubling as director of Expert Committee of China Industry Innovation Alliance for the Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, chief scientist of Beijing Intelligent and Connected Vehicles Industry Innovation Center and head of Special Expert Group for Development Internet of Vehicles Development of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China.
His main research areas include electronic control of vehicles and smart cars. He has won a number of academic honors and awards including the Second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, Second National Prize for Technological Inventions (twice), National Innovation Pioneering Award, Special Award for Progress in Science and Technology in Automobile Industry of China, the First Prize for Technical Invention of the Ministry of Education, and the First Prize for Progress in Science and Technology of the Automobile Industry in China (twice).

Liu Jiaping
Liu graduated from the former Department of Building Materials, Chongqing University in 1986. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of Southeast University, and an expert entitled to the special allowance of the State Council. Liu serves as director and chief scientist of the State Key Laboratory of High-performance Civil Engineering Materials, doubling as vice president of China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization, vice president of Concrete and Cement Product Association, vice president of China Branch of ACI, and vice chairman of National Technical Committee on Standardization of Concrete.
Liu has long been engaged in basic research, technology development and engineering application of high-performance concrete. His research focuses include shrinkage and crack control, rheological control and high performance of cement-based materials. Liu has participated in more than 30 scientific research projects including "973" projects, key projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and projects under the National Science and Technology Support Plan of the “11th Five-year Plan” and the “12th Five-year Plan”. The early deformation and cracking test system of cement-based materials invented by Liu has been adopted by more than 20 international well-known research institutions such as Delft University in the Netherlands. The research findings have been applied to national major projects such as the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
Liu has successively received a number of honors and awards, including the Second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology three times, Second National Price for Technological Invention once, first prize for progress in science and technology of the ministerial and provincial level 6 times, second prize 7 times and third prize a couple of times; he is the holder of more than 120 authorized invention patents, and has published nearly 300 academic papers, including 148 SCI&EI-indexed papers. Besides, Liu has compiled or participated in the compilation of 9 standards, making remarkable contributions to advancement of the industry.
Zhu Hehua
Zhu graduated from the former Department of Mining Engineering of Chongqing University in 1983, majoring in chemical mining, and got his bachelor’s degree. In 1986, he graduated from the Mining Engineering Program of the Department of Mining Engineering of Chongqing University and obtained his master’s degree
Zhu is currently a specially appointed professor of Tongji University and a national registered civil (geotechnical) engineer. He is also serving as director of the Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Civil Information Technology Education and director of the disciplinary direction of tunnel and underground building engineering of Tongji University.
Zhu has been long engaged in the research on rock mass strength theory, life-cycle design method of underground structure, disaster prevention safety of underground space and intelligent underground infrastructure construction, and is one of the pioneering researchers of digital underground space and engineering (DUSE) in the world. He is hailed by international peers as "one of the international pioneers of information integration method for urban infrastructure planning, design, construction and maintenance"
Zhu has received a number of honors and awards, such as Humboldt Research Award (2015, as the only winner of this award in China as of present), T.H.H. PIAN International Academic Contribution Award (2013), Second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology (twice, ranking the first place both times), and first prize for scientific and technological achievements of the ministerial and provincial level and of first-class associations (9 times).
