The Closing Ceremony of the 17th National College Student's Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest and the "Scientific and Technological Innovation Makes a Country Stronger " Online Themed Activity, co-hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League, China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, All-China Studies' Federation, and the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and organized by Sichuan University, were held on April 12.
After nearly 2 years of hardworking, all of the 6 pieces of works recommended by Chongqing University stood out from more than 22,000 pieces of works submitted by colleges and universities across the country, and won awards. CQU students claimed 1 special award (49 nationwide and only 1 in Chongqing), second award, third award and the special award for progressive innovation (only 1 in Chongqing), and won the "Champion Cup" together with other 42 colleges and universities including Zhejiang University (only 1 in Chongqing). Moreover, CQU was given the "Excellent Organization Award".
This is the second time that Chongqing University has won the special award at the National College Student's Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest after it claimed the special award 8 years ago, and the first time that CQU has claimed the only "Champion Cup" in Chongqing at the National College Student's Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest for 2 straight years. Moreover, Chongqing University has won the "Champion Cup" at the "Challenge Cup" Contests for 4 straight years. At this year's Contest, Chongqing University achieved gratifying results again in this national college students' I&E competition of the highest level nationwide after it claimed 6 gold awards in the "Internet +" Competition of 2021.
In particular, the works Heterogeneous Metal Pulse Discharge Connection Equipment Based on Parameter Perception, with Hou Shiying, a CQU teacher, as the supervisor, won the national special award. The works Gold Branch and Jade Liquid, finished under supervision of Mr. Hao Jian, won the national second award, and the works What Causes the Regional Differences in Carbon Intensity in China's Transportation Sector? finished under supervision of Mr. Feng Chao, the works "BID" Innovation Inspector finished under supervision of Mr. Luo Yang, the works On the Historical Continuity of the Road of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics from the Meaning of "Connecting the Three Systems" in the Spring and Autumn Period finished under supervision of Ms. Hu Jia and other teachers, and the Intelligent Online Water Quality Safety Early Warning Equipment Integrating Biological Behavior and Spectroscopy finished under supervision of Mr. Zhao Zhiwei were given the national third award.
Chongqing University has been attaching great importance to the "Challenge Cup" Contest, and has been making efforts to drive study, innovation and teaching with the contest. With substantial support of the Undergraduate School, CQU Science Park Office, Graduate School, and the Student's Vocational Development and Employment Guide Center and related schools, CQU organized preparation for the preliminary contest, quarter-final and final of the "Challenge Cup" Contest and organized the Chongqing Municipal Contest of the "Challenge Cup" Contest of 2021. Besides, it has organized more than 60 sessions of special training and guide given by experts from within and without CQU. During the period of preparation for the final, Feng Yedong, Deputy Secretary of CPC CQU Committee, visited and encouraged the participating teachers and students, and talked with them amicably.
The "Challenge Cup" National College Student's Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest is reported a biennial event launched in 1989 and adheres to the purpose that highlights "science, truth, hardworking, innovation and courage". It is the competition of the highest level, largest scale and most extensive coverage in the scientific and technological innovation field for college students in China, and is hailed as the scientific and technological innovation "Olympics" for modern college students. This year's Contest has attracted more than 2 million students from over 2,500 colleges and universities, hitting a historical high in terms of both number of participating colleges and universities and participating students. Due to outbreak of COVID-19, the National Final, which was previously scheduled in November 2021, was postponed to the end of March 2022. This year's Contest is the "Challenge Cup" Contest that lasts for the longest period of time in history and is the first online "Challenge Cup".
