The 2022 Science and Technology Week, the Special Activity of National Day of Science and Technology Workers and the First Chongqing Academician and Expert Seminar on Innovative Development of Astronomy were held at the Chongqing Academy of S&T for Development on the afternoon of May 26. Yang Shizhong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gao Xinbo, President of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Cheng Wei, a member of the leading Party group of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and Vice Chairman of the Association, Tian Ying, Deputy Head of the People's Government of Shapingba District and Chairman of Shapingba District Committee of Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, Li Jian, Vice President of Chongqing University, and Zhu Jialin, former Chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and former Secretary of CPC CQU Committee are among the more than 40 experts and researchers present at the events. Chang Jin, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Head of the National Astronomical Observatories of China, Wu Xiangping, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou Jilin, Secretary General of Chinese Astronomical Society, and Researchers Zhao Yongheng, Cui Chenzhou and Zheng Yongchun of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the events by virtual means.

The events are part of the joint efforts of Chongqing Academy of S&T for Development and Chongqing (Shapingba) District Expert Service Base to organize, guide and serve experts by fully professional advantages and resource advantages of the think tank. The events cover topics including "prospering the astronomical academic atmosphere in Chongqing", "astronomical science and technology enable the social and economic development of Chongqing" and "strengthening the construction of Chongqing Astronomical Society", and serve as a platform for attendants to discuss frontier issues and hot issues of astronomical research.

The academicians and experts at the events shared their ideas and suggestions on development of astronomy in Chongqing. Experts said that the development of astronomy in Chongqing has a solid mass base and a long history, but is hindered by the adequacy in infrastructure and disciplinary talents. A number of astronomical observation bases and platforms suitable for development of sectors including scientific research, education and cultural tourism in Chongqing taking into account the actual condition in Chongqing, so as to lay a solid foundation for the development of astronomy in Chongqing. Efforts shall also be made to strengthen development and construction of basic knowledge and science education courses of astronomy, aerospace and other related disciplines, to introduce knowledge of astronomy to the classroom. Furthermore, exchange  with other institutions at home and abroad on astronomical research shall be promoted to keep up with the frontier of the development of astronomy. Besides, a prospective layout and strategic thinking are also important for the future development of astronomy. In addition, experts and academicians made a commitment to continue to support the astronomy related construction of Chongqing as they did before, and offer support to development of Chongqing Astronomical Society by giving full play to their resource advantages.

Xie Gengxin, President of Chongqing Astronomical Society, said that since its founding at the end of 2021, Chongqing Astronomical Society has held a number of science popularization presentations and star observation practice activity for amateur astronomers, and organized academic exchange and discussion, in an effort to create an inspiring and encouraging atmosphere for dissemination of knowledge of astronomical science and related research. Taking this occasion as an opportunity, Chongqing Astronomical Society will draw on academic resources that contribute to high-level astronomical research in Chongqing, and carry out academic and science popularization activities with national or even international influence. It will also make efforts to unite and guide astronomical scientists in Chongqing to make contribution to scientific research, administrative consulting services, rural revitalization and science popularization.

Li Jian announced the intention of Chongqing University to concentrate further efforts on development of astronomical disciplines, astronomical scientific research and popularization of astronomical science and bring the astronomy of Chongqing to a higher level.

After the Seminar, Wu Xiangping, upon invitation of Chongqing Astronomical Society, delivered a special science popularization report titled "understand the universe" on the cloud to students of primary and middle schools in Chengkou County, Youyang County, Nanchuan District, Wansheng Economic Development Zone, Yubei District, Bishan District, and Shapingba District of Chongqing and remote rural areas of Lyuchun, Yunnan
