CQU approved to build National Innovation Platform for Industry-Education Integration of Energy Storage Technology

According to the official reply of the Ministry of Education, Chongqing University was approved to build the National Innovation Platform for Industry-Education Integration of Energy Storage Technology the other day. The Platform is another national major teaching and scientific research base Chongqing University has been officially approved to build.

The National Innovation Platform for Industry-Education Integration of Energy Storage Technology is approved jointly by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Education. It is an important move to implement the deployment of the major decision of China on “carbon peaking and carbon neutralization”, enhance the ability of tackling key core technologies and independent innovation in the energy storage industry, and promote the safe and high-quality development of the energy storage industry through the integration of industry and education. With the substantial support of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Chongqing University will leverage the geographical resources of the southwest China and the traditional advantageous disciplines of Chongqing University in the whole industrial chain of energy storage technology, such as power engineering and engineering thermophysics, mining engineering, electrical engineering, material science and engineering, and chemical engineering, etc., work with leading enterprises in the energy storage industry, including China Dong Fang Electric Corporation, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, Weichai Power, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company , SPIC (Guangdong) Comprehensive Intelligent Energy Technology Innovation Institute, PowerChina Chongqing Engineering Corporation Limited, and SPIC Chongqing Energy Research Institute, to build the Platform.

In the next three years, the Platform will target at the "choke points" and "sticking points" that are hindering the development of the energy storage industry and key technological difficulties, work with the cooperating enterprises to tackle major technological difficulties and carry out high-level talent nurturing and first-rate discipline construction in 3 directions, including electrochemical energy storage, hydrogen energy storage and energy storage system, in an ultimate effort to boost the effective coordination of the education chain, talent chain and innovation chain in the energy storage field, and build an internationally first-rate comprehensive innovation platform that serves the energy structure adjustment and industrial structure adjustment of China.

The approval to build the National Innovation Platform for Industry-Education Integration of Energy Storage Technology highlights the great responsibility of Chongqing University for serving the national strategic needs and the regional economic development. Chongqing University will implement an "open system of reward", make all-out efforts to tackle "bottleneck" issues of the energy storage industry, build first-rate disciplines, train first-rate talents, and enhance the original technological innovation, so as to provide strong support for the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goal of China.
