The 7th Innovation Forum on Architecture and Civil Engineering held in Chongqing

The 7th Innovation Forum on Architecture and Civil Engineering sponsored by the Department of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering of Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Civil Engineering Society, the Department of Engineering and Material Science of National Natural Science Foundation Commission, the Editorial Department of the Journal of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Editorial Department of Industrial Construction and Steel Construction (Chinese and English), Chongqing University, Hunan University, Chang'an University and MCC Construction Research Institute Co., Ltd. was being held in Chongqing from February 18 to 19, 2023.

More than 420 experts and scholars, including 27 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences, more than 100 national talents, national engineering survey and design masters and national top talents in the industry, showed up in person at the event. Another 39,000 experts and scholars participated by virtual means.

Academician Zhou Xuhong, Chairman of the Forum, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Research Center for Steel Structure Engineering, presided at the Opening Ceremony, and briefed the participants on the mission of the Forum.



At the Opening Ceremony, Shu Lichun, Secretary of CPC CQU Committee, gave an introduction to the school running of Chongqing University, the history and current development status of the civil engineering discipline of Chongqing University. Shu expressed his hope that the Forum would serve as a platform for extensive exchange and in-depth discussion over topics under the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" initiative, Intelligent Construction, and new urbanization, so as to bolster Chongqing University's efforts to build world-first-rate, advantageous disciplines with Chinese characteristics.



Sha Aimin, President of Chang'an University, Gao Zhanjun, Director of the Third Bureau of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Li Ming'an, Secretary General of China Civil Engineering Society, delivered a speech respectively on behalf of the sponsors. In their speeches, they expressed their hope that the discussion and exchange would result in directions and strategies for future development of China's engineering structure and a drive for China's civil engineer to transition to green and low-carbon development.



As part of the Opening Ceremony, the Founding Ceremony of Biogeotechnics, a professional academic journal sponsored by Chongqing University, with KeAi as the co-publisher, was held. Li Yingmin, Assistant to the President of Chongqing University, presided at the Ceremony. Liu Hanlong, Chief Editor of the Journal and Managing Vice President of Chongqing University, delivered a speech. In his speech, Liu Hanlong said that Biogeotechnics (English) was founded after China included the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as an important part of its overall economic and social development. It is the world's first journal on the interdisciplinary field of geotechnics and biology.



Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Zhou Xuhong, Zheng Yingren, Wang Fuming, Chen Xiangsheng and Du Xiuli, as well as Gao Zhanjun, Director of the Third Bureau of Chinese Academy of Engineering, inaugurated the Biogeochnics, which marked the official founding of the Journal.



In the invited speech part of the Forum, 12 academicians including Zheng Wenzhong, Yukio Tamura, Zhuang Weimin, Dong Shilin, Zhou Xuhong, Ma Kejian, Chen Xiangsheng, Zheng Jianlong, Lyu Xilin, Yue Qingrui, Chen Yunmin and Du Xiuli, and 33 famed experts and scholars had in-depth discussion and exchange over hot topics including new theories and methods of intelligent building design, urban space development theories and methods, urban landscape ecological planning theories and methods, building environment and municipal engineering, fiber reinforced composite materials. This event is a high-standard, high-level, large-scale academic conference in the field of architectural science and civil engineering research in China.

Yang Qingshan, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering, CQU, presided over the Closing Ceremony of the Forum. Liu Hanlong, Vice President of Chongqing University, delivered a speech. At the Closing Ceremony, Zhou Xuhong, Chairman of the Forum, announced Harbin Institute of Technology as the undertaker of the 8th Forum. The signboard handover ceremony of the Forum was held.



The "Innovation Forum on Architecture and Civil Engineering" is an academic forum initiated by Zhou Xuhong with the Editorial Board of Journal of Architecture and Civil Engineering as the core team. It is supposed to serve as a platform for experts, scholars, management personnel and technicians in the field of architectural science and civil engineering at home and abroad to discuss their latest research findings, build a collaborative innovation mode and mechanism that feature "diversity, integration, dynamic and continuity", and establish a platform for research of major foundation and application foundation built up by colleges, universities, scientific research institutes and large enterprises, a platform for development and research of major key technologies and a platform for transformation of major scientific and technological achievements. It is also expected to lead the technological innovation of China's architectural science and engineering industry and serve the major strategies including the construction of the national innovation system, "the Belt and Road Initiative" and "going-out" of science and technology. The Innovation Forum has been held 6 times in Chang'an University, Chongqing University, Shandong University, Hunan University, Dalian University of Technology and Chang'an University respectively in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.
