Ambassador of Belgium to China H.E. dr. Jan Hoogmartens was on a visit to Chongqing University on the morning of February 24, 2023. Liu Hanlong, Managing Vice President of Chongqing University, appeared at the event. The parties held exchanges and discussions on issues including educational exchanges, Industry-University-Research cooperation.
President Liu extended a warm welcome to the visitors. He briefly introduced the academic advantages, academic and scientific research level, as well as international cooperation and exchange of Chongqing University. He mentioned that the cultural and educational exchanges between Chongqing University and Belgian universities and scientific research institutions were flourishing in new stage, and abundant academic, scientific research and cultural and educational exchange activities had been carried out in the fields of finance, management, logistics and engineering. He said that last year marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium, and exchanges between the two countries in humanities, education and other fields had become increasingly frequent. He also pointed out that with the opening of the "Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe International Railway", the communication between Chongqing and Belgium would become more convenient and close. In addition, he hoped to further deepen pragmatic cooperation with Belgian universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises and promote friendly exchanges between the two parties in the fields of humanities, academics and scientific research.
H.E. dr. Jan Hoogmartens said that student exchanges and academic exchanges were significant for promoting the relations between the two countries. He once studied for a master's degree in law at Hong Kong University, China as the first batch of international students sent by Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the student exchanges between China and Belgium were gradually returning to frequent. As a result, he said that Belgium welcomed talented and motivated students for exchange and study. The academic and scientific research cooperation between Chongqing University and Belgian universities and institutions had always been close, and Belgium was very grateful to Chongqing University for its long-term strong support. At last, he hoped that the parties would further deepen cooperation and jointly achieve fruitful results.
