Congratulations on successful convening of the 8th Rex & GG

Recently, the 8th International Conference on Recrystallization and Grain Growth co-sponsored by Chongqing University, Nanjing Tech University and Technical University of Denmark was held simultaneously in Chongqing, China and Copenhagen, Denmark. President Wang Shuxin of Chongqing University and Director Huang He of the Office of International Affairs attended the opening ceremony.

On behalf of Chongqing University, President Wang delivered the opening speech, welcoming researchers, scholars and industry experts from all over the world to attend this international conference, and introduced the development of Chongqing University and its unique advantages in materials science.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Giuseppe Carlo Abbruzzese, Chairman of the International Committee of the Conference, presented the C.S. Smith Award to Professor Bevis Hutchinson.

The Rex & GG was held in turn on all continents every three years. The first conference was convened in RWTH Aachen University in 2001. At the last conference, Professor Huang Xiaoxu of Chongqing University competed on behalf of China and won the right to hold this conference in Chongqing, China in May 2022.

This conference focused on the latest progress in the research of recovery, recrystallization and grain growth of light alloy materials, steel materials, superalloys, ceramic materials, composite materials as well as new and cutting-edge materials, with topics covering the basic mechanism of recovery, recrystallization and grain growth, modeling and simulation, dynamic recovery, recrystallization and grain growth, effect of plastic deformation microstructure, structure, energy, mobility and migration of grain boundaries, advanced characterization technology, industrial on-line monitoring, additive manufacturing, annealing in post treatment, etc.

There were more than 300 representatives (including 110 representatives in the parallel session of Copenhagen) from 23 countries attending the conference. The conference was convened in the forms of keynote report, invited lecture in parallel session, oral presentation, wall newspaper, etc., so it witnessed 5 keynote reports, 32 invited lectures, 98 oral presentations and 69 wall newspapers in total.

Li Xiuyan, a researcher from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a keynote report in the parallel session of Chongqing. During the five-day conference, the participants made wonderful speeches and in-depth discussions and exchanges on the above different topics. Some participants also visited the Electron Microscope Center of Chongqing University in Huxi Campus and held in-depth exchanges on the development of advanced characterization technology.

Institutions such as Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Advanced Materials, Xnovo Technology APS, ThermoFisher, Zeiss, Oxford Instruments, Shanghai Winner International Trade Co., Ltd., Tescan, China HPC and M4D (l Microstructures in 4D), etc. also provided strong support for the successful convening of the conference.
