On July 15, 2023, the first DeCarbon International Conference officially kicked off in Chongqing. At this Conference, discussions have been conducted around the hot issues in the research fields of zero carbon emission, efficient energy storage and conversion, energy collection and utilization, clean environment and long-term sustainability. Besides, more than 500 well-known experts and scholars of related fields at home and abroad attended the Conference and carried out academic exchanges in the form of plenary lectures, keynote speeches and oral presentations. The Conference sponsored by Chongqing University and co-organized by Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications and National University of Singapore (Chongqing) Research Institute was held in the form of 6 plenary lectures, 22 keynote speeches and over 150 parallel reports.
Prof. Liao Qiang, Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Chongqing University, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Liao introduced the leaders and experts present at the Conference and extended sincere welcome to the experts and scholars at home and abroad. He also expressed the desire to build a multidisciplinary exchange platform for scholars on the frontier issues of low-carbon science with the help of the international periodical DeCarbon to discuss academic frontiers and hot spots and contribute wisdom to achieving the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" and sustainable energy development.

Next, professors John Wang and Shuhui Sun chaired the plenary lectures together. Academician Shuhui Sun from Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS), Canada, gave a plenary lecture entitled "Next Generation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology towards Carbon Neutrality" Academician Andrew Wee from National University of Singapore made a plenary lecture entitled "Study on Molecular Resolution of Carbon Nanostructures". Academician Alex Jen from City University of Hong Kong gave a plenary lecture entitled "Printable Organic/Perovskite Solar Cells for Clean Energy". Prof. Zhang Jiujun from Fuzhou University made a plenary lecture entitled "Development and Prospect of Frontier Electrochemical Cells in New Energy Storage and Conversion".
6 parallel sessions were set at this Conference, including energy conservation and emission reduction technologies and systems, biomass and bionic energy, solar energy utilization technologies, energy materials and devices, safe energy storage technologies and low-carbon detection technologies. In this way, scholars at home and abroad had heated discussions on topics such as zero carbon emission, efficient energy storage and conversion, energy collection and utilization, clean environment and long-term sustainability.
On the afternoon of July 16, Prof. Yang Ronggui from Huazhong University of Science and Technology gave a plenary lecture entitled "Rethinking Thermal Energy: Storage and Application of High Temperature Thermal Energy", and academician John Wang from National University of Singapore made a plenary lecture entitled "Energy and Environmental Electrocatalysts: Synergistic, Complementary, Parallel or Cascade". The excellent lectures given by the two scholars drew a successful conclusion for this Conference.
Conference secretariat Sun Kuan and Prof. Tang Xiaosheng presided over the closing ceremony. In addition, DeCarbon Young Scholar Award was specially arranged at the Conference to encourage postgraduate students, doctoral students and young teachers to make oral presentations, so as to increase opportunities for exchanges with participating experts and promote the development of young talents. This Conference not only presented the latest research progress in the fields of renewable energy, clean environment, advanced materials and sustainable development at home and abroad, but also promoted the cross-integration and innovation of disciplines, continuously injecting new vitality into this field, and helping to realize the national goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" at an early date.
