After five years, Chongqing University's "Dream Plan" Overseas Visit Program was restarted. The first batch of 34 students traveled to Singapore as scheduled on June 27 and returned to Chongqing on July 2, marking the successful end of the 6-day visit.
This visit was divided into courses, campus tour, cultural experience, etc. All the participating students studied the history, education system, policies and culture of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University. Vincent Tay, a lecturer who graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science, brought the students closer with humorous talks. Besides, the lively classroom atmosphere and entertaining teaching methods made the students interested in understanding the history of Singapore.
Cui Feng, a senior lecturer at Nanyang Technological University, started with the university's doorplate stone and introduced it into the diversified language system of Singapore from the word size and font of the four languages on the stone and then explained the cultural policies of Singapore from the perspective of social language and translation.
The campus of Nanyang Technological University is covered with large areas of tropical vegetation such as towering trees and green carpet-like lawns. There are also Gaia, the largest wooden structure in Asia, looking like a "small steamed bun" in stacked steamers and Chinese Heritage Center with strong Chinese style. Such a beautiful campus with unique and ingenious environmentally-friendly buildings makes students feel refreshed.
At the National University of Singapore, the students met Zhao Jiadong, a student of 2012 from the College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, Chongqing University who was studying here for a doctoral degree. He led the students to visit the building of Faculty of Science, NUS Museum and Library. On the open space outside the Library, blank posters were spread. Looking closely, it was the members of associations drawing propaganda pictures and texts. The flying sweat drops and waving brushes created an enthusiastic and bold atmosphere. In the Laboratory Building, continuous posters introducing students' projects came into view. Guided by interest and based on practice, the strong scientific research atmosphere of National University of Singapore brought shock to students in learning methods and scientific research thinking.
The National Library Board also left a deep impression on the students. There are multilingual documents such as Chinese, English and Malay in the Library. The whole Library has an elegant environment, which is large in size, unified in changing styles, and full of sense of science and technology.
Clarke Quay has witnessed the history of Singapore, and Chinatown, Haji Lane and Little India showed the architectural styles, cultural characteristics and artistic atmosphere of different races. In order to have a deeper understanding and experience, the students during the 1-day free time took the bus and subway to the landmark buildings of Singapore, such as Raffles Landing Site, Double Helix Bridge and Red Dot Design Museum and experienced the modernization and diversity of Singapore. They got a pleasure trip in the prosperous Orchard Road and Gardens by the Bay, and experienced the urban traffic, resident life and restaurant culture.
Everyone said that although the visit time was short, it was the first time to experience different regional cultures and education, which not only broadened horizons, increased knowledge, but also brought a lot of thinking, and made clear the direction of their own development and the goal of struggle in the future. During the visit, the tacit cooperation and trust of group members and the help and understanding between groups made the students understand tolerance and respect, enhanced mutual friendship and strengthened group consciousness.
