On the morning of September 1, 2023, the convocation ceremony of Chongqing University for 2023 postgraduates was held in the semi-circular outdoor theater (also called Rainy Sports Ground) of Campus A. More than 7,700 postgraduate freshmen from China and other 43 countries and regions have officially registered for enrollment in Chongqing University. Leaders of Chongqing University such as Shu Lichun, Secretary of the Party Committee, President Wang Shuxin, Wang Shilong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee , Feng Yedong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Presidents Liu Guiwen and Yang Jun attended the ceremony, and Executive Vice President Liu Hanlong presided over the ceremony.
At 9:00 in the morning, all the teachers and students stood up and sang the national anthem together, witnessing the Convocation Ceremony of Chongqing University for 2023 Postgraduates.
Wang Shuxin pointed out in his speech entitled "Make Clear Changes and Break Through Present Situation for Continuous Progress" that knowing change ahead of time, responding to changes positively and seeking changes actively are the keys for the postgraduates in the new era to win at the beginning and then achieve a wonderful life and everyone should know the changes in the world, understand the changes in the country and identify the changes in individuals. He also expressed the affectionate wishes to these postgraduates. Firstly, dare to climb the peak of science, aim for the highest and take the advantage of favorable development trend; Secondly, gather the power of innovation, learn from strengths of others and make progress by leaping at the chance; Thirdly, adhere to the way of research and keep a firm belief for steady advance against the trend. He hoped that everyone would firmly establish the lofty ideal of serving the country through science and technology, devote themselves to research, deepen academic studies, dare to make innovations, take advantage of the situation, leap at the chance and advance against the trend on the track of youth, merge the "trend" of personal development into the "megatrend" of era development, and strive to become the pillar of innovation in the continuous struggle of building a strong country and realizing the great national rejuvenation.
Professor Zhou Xichuan from the School of Microelectronics and Communication Engineering delivered a speech on behalf of postgraduate supervisors. Taking Professor Feng Jian, one of the founders of the Radio Department of Chongqing University, alumnus Mr. Ren Zhengfei and his supervisor, Mr. Yan Xiaolang, as examples, he encouraged the students to learn faith, courage and persistence from the spirit upheld by Chongqing University when facing difficulties in scientific research and study.
Zhang Tong, a doctoral candidate from the School of Environment and Ecology, spoke as a student representative. He reviewed his five-year study life and achievements as a postgraduate, and shared three points of view: the first is to change the thinking and become a person who dares to meet challenges. Ran Maoping, a postgraduate from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, spoke as a representative of freshmen. She said that as the contemporary youth, the students should dare to cross "snowy mountain" and "grassland", dare to take "hot potato", dare to be "ants on hot bricks", and be willing to dance "at the tip of a knife", and gain talents through trials and hardships in practical work.
Shu Lichun read out the Decision on Commending Distinguished Doctoral and Master's Dissertation Awards of Chongqing University in 2023 and encouraged students to follow the example of the award-winning students, devote themselves to research and study rigorously, and climb the peak of science bravely. 59 doctors represented by Cheng Jixin, and 91 masters including Pei Hongxia, et al. won the distinguished doctoral and master's dissertation awards respectively.
Then, the convocation ceremony ended in the school song sung by all the teachers and students: "All the natives of Bashu remember the achievements of the King Yu in taming the flood and the school-running system of Bashu was initiated by the ancient educator Wen Weng, the prefecture chief of Shu in the Western Han Dynasty. Chongqing University realized a grand scale in running school with a galaxy of talents and magnificent momentum."
Ma Tianhao, a student from the School of Economics and Business Administration, said that the convocation ceremony is an important starting point for entering the postgraduate stage. He will keep in mind the encouragement from the president, strive to expand the field of knowledge, pursue academic excellence, and contribute his own strength to the sustainable development of individuals and society. Li Xiayi, a student from the School of Journalism and Communication, said that she hopes to meet a group of like-minded friends during the postgraduate life in Chongqing University, so as to achieve the parallel development of academics and practice. She will also bear in mind the earnest advice of the university leaders and make persistent efforts for further improvement from the past achievements. Yu Qin, a student from the School of Law, said that Chongqing University is exactly the institution she has always longed for.
