On September 27, 2023, at the invitation of academician Yang Yongbin, Honorary Dean of the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University, the Appointment Ceremony of Honorary Professor J.N. Reddy (a Foreign Academician of CAE) and the CAE Lecture of Engineering Advancement & Development Series (CAE-LEADs) were successfully held in the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing University. Leaders including Pan Fusheng, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and President of Chongqing Academy of S&T for Development, Yang Yongbin, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yukio Tamura, a foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Guiwen, Vice President of Chongqing University, Zhang Zhiqing, Director of Office of International Affairs, Yang Qingshan, Dean of School of Civil Engineering, Hua Jianmian, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Civil Engineering, etc. attended this ceremony and lecture activity. Yang Qingshan presided over the activity.

At the appointment ceremony, Yukio Tamura and Yang Yongbin delivered speeches respectively, expressing their warm welcome to academician Reddy and introducing his academic achievements in the world engineering science to the teachers and students present.

Besides, Liu Guiwen awarded the Appointment Certificate of Honorary Professor to academician Reddy, and expressed his welcome and gratitude.

Then, on behalf of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Pan Fusheng awarded academician Reddy the Academic Certificate of CAE-LEADs.

Subsequently, Reddy gave an academic report entitled "Computational Mechanics: The Third Pillar of Scientific Study". He stressed in the report that computational mechanics has become an indispensable part in many fields such as engineering analysis, design and manufacturing, and then discussed the latest development of finite element analysis of engineering science aspects, especially the research results in simulating functional gradient and large deformation of composite shell structure, analyzing viscous incompressible fluid flow, and predicting fracture and its propagation.

Reddy is a famous expert for mechanics and engineering, with research expertise in composite materials and structures, applied mechanics and computational mechanics. Therefore, he is honored as a global leader in composite materials research and engineering education. At present, he has published more than 800 periodical papers and 25 monographs, and is one of the top 100 highly cited scholars in ISI engineering. In addition, his academic citation times in Google are over 93,471 and H index is 114. He was elected as an academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States and a foreign academician of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2015 and then recognized as a foreign academician of the Brazilian National Academy of Engineering and the Canadian National Academy of Engineering in 2017, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Royal Spanish Academy of Engineering in 2019 as well a foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences in 2023.

The CAE Lecture of Engineering Advancement & Development Series (CAE-LEADs) is a new high-end academic brand established by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, which is aimed at domestic universities, research institutes or enterprises and invites foreign academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering to give academic reports on the frontier topics of engineering science and technology, and encourages the participation of academicians from related fields, so as to jointly build an international academic exchange platform and benefit the peer experts and young scientific and technological workers.
