On January 19, the Ceremony of "National Engineer Awards" was held in the Great Hall of the People. 81 individuals and 50 teams were awarded the "National Outstanding Engineer" and "National Outstanding Engineering Team" respectively.

On the occasion of the first selection and commendation ceremony of the National Engineer Awards, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered an important instruction and extended heartfelt congratulations to the recipients of the National Outstanding Engineer Award and the National Outstanding Engineering Team Award.

President Xi underscored the significant role that engineers play in promoting engineering science and technology for the benefit of mankind and the creation of the future. The honored individuals and teams are excellent representatives and seen as role models by all engineers and technicians across the country, Xi said.

President Xi emphasized the need to further increase the independent training of engineers and technicians for the future and to continuously improve the social status of engineers, and stressed the importance of creating conditions for the success of engineers and fostering an atmosphere enabling them to improve themselves, work hard, overcome challenges and forge ahead with innovation. The nation must expedite efforts to develop a large team of high-caliber engineers, he added. It is hoped that the country's engineers and technicians will be determined to dedicate themselves to the ideals of serving the country with science and technology for the benefit of the people; will have the courage to make breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, develop high-quality projects, promote the development of new productive forces, and help China achieve great self-reliance and strength in science and technology, and serve high-quality development; and will make greater contributions to the comprehensive advancement of the building of China into a powerhouse and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by pursuing Chinese modernization, Xi said.

Three CQU alumni, Li Xianguang, Lin Mingzhi and He Jianhua, were reportedly awarded the prestigious "National Outstanding Engineer" titles.

Mr. Li Xianguang, Doctor of Engineering, Senior Engineer, Chief Engineer of Chongqing Machinery & Electronic Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (CMEIM) and Visiting Professor of CQU, received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Manufacturing from CQU in July 1988, and Master's Degree and Doctor's Degree from CQU in 2003 and 2012, respectively. He is recipient of the special government allowance from the State Council and the National Award for Excellence in Innovation, and is also recognized as National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, Chongqing Talented and Outstanding Scientist, one of the earliest leading talents in scientific and technological innovation in Chongqing, and a leading academic and technological expert in Chongqing.

He started his career as a designer, then as an expert of industrial machine tool, and later as a pioneer of intelligent manufacturing technology. Since 1988 when he started his career, Li Xianguang has been engaged in the research and development of CNC machineries and automated, eco-friendly and intelligent technologies and products. By keeping abreast of the internationally cutting-edge technologies such as precision CNC machineries and centering on the major demands of national strategies, industrial development needs and the main economic battlegrounds, he has carried out core technology research in the key areas of high-performance gear precision manufacturing technologies and machineries. As a PI, he has successively developed a range of premium industrial master machines that have reached the international advanced level.

Over the next few years, Li Xianguang would like to build the CMEIM's technology center into a national R&D platform and technology innovation hub, continuously improve the quality management system, and make breakthroughs around the core technology of intelligent equipment. It is also his hope that CMEIM would cultivate a bunch of senior technicians who are capable of making innovations and solving complex problems, and endeavor to develop itself into a benchmark enterprise specialized in intelligent manufacturing.

Lin Mingzhi, CPC member, professorate senior engineer, was named the Distinguished Expert of Guangxi, the Outstanding Engineer of Guangxi (at the inaugural edition), the Top-notch Talent of Liuzhou (among the 10th edition), and the Advanced Worker of Technological Innovation in Liuzhou. Now he is the Chief Engineer and Director of Global R&D Center of Guangxi LiuGong Machinery Co., Ltd.

Mr. Lin received his Bachelor's degree in Mining Machinery from CQU in July 1986 and his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from CQU in July 1997. Having successively served as the principal of the research institute for two core products of LiuGong, namely excavators and loaders, Mr. Lin has made outstanding contributions to the R&D of construction machinery products and technological innovation, and has also delivered great successes in R&D team building and training of professional technicians.

Guided by Mr. Lin, LiuGong's R&D team has successfully developed the country's first 5G intelligent remote-controlled loader and driverless road roller in recent years, and successfully rolled out a new generation of green, purely electric, intelligent loaders and excavators for mass market. Notably, LiuGong's 856H-EV electric loader is applicable to the working conditions of Sichuan-Xizang Railway by virtue of its superiority in safety, environmental protection, dynamism, efficiency and energy-saving, which leads the trend of technological development in the industry.

He Jianhua, senior engineer, chief expert of Dongfang Electric Wind Power Co., Ltd, recipient of the special government allowance from the State Council, Outstanding Innovation-oriented Talent of Sichuan Province, Academic and Technological Pacesetter of Sichuan Province, has long been working at the front line of the electric power equipment industry, and is a renowned expert in the field of China's power generating equipment. He primarily specializes in the design and development of large-scale hydro-generators and technical management of large-scale electrical machinery manufacturers.

He graduated from the electrical machinery program of CQU in 1984. As a hydro-generator designer of Dongfang Electric Machinery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Corporation, he was honored with a number of scientific and technological progress awards, such as the Grand Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award for the year 2019, and the National Outstanding Entrepreneur for the year 2021-2022.

He braved the technical challenges of hydropower by personally working on the major hydropower projects such as the Three Gorges, Xiluodu, Baihetan and many others. He pioneered into the cutting-edge wind power technology by personally accomplishing the creation of the first 10 MW, 13 MW and 18 MW offshore wind turbines. He has witnessed the great transition of China's electric power equipment industry from being a trailer, then a competitor to finally a pacesetter, during which he has established himself as a respected technical expert and all-round executive. He was also recognized in the industry for putting into practice the "dual-carbon" goal, providing solid technical support for China's clean energy transformation, and benefiting families with the "Made in China" products and technologies.

Created in 2023, the National Engineer Awards is designed to incentivize engineers and technicians to work hard and move forward, and to make greater contributions to the building of a modernized socialist country and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in all aspects.

Individual engineers and teams are honored for their patriotic commitment, pioneering and innovative efforts in the construction of major projects, manufacturing of major equipments, research and development of core technologies in key fields, and creation of major inventions, etc. The advanced engineering and technological achievements they have made have continuously enhanced the country's capability of in-house innovation.
