On the afternoon of January 5, 2024, the Inauguration Meeting of OpenHarmony Technology Club of Chongqing University & the Innovation Forum of Key and Basic Software for Big Data and AI Ecosystem took place at the Auditorium of the CQU's Huxi Campus Library. CQU was selected as one of the earliest universities in China to be part of the OpenHarmony Technology Club.
The event was graced and addressed by Wang Shuxin, President of Chongqing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Xu Zhipeng, Deputy Director-General of Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau; Chen Jianjun, Level II Bureau Rank Official of Chongqing Municipal Economy and Information Technology Commission; Lu Wei, Chairperson of National Alliance of Demonstration Software Colleges and Professor of Beijing Jiaotong University; Gong Ti, Chairperson of the Working Committee of OpenHarmony Project Community and President of Huawei Consumer BG Software Engineering Department; and Chen Haibo, Chairperson of the Technical Steering Committee of OpenHarmony Project Community and Huawei's Chief Scientist for Basic Software.
According to Mr. Wang Shuxin, China is implementing the national software development strategy thoroughly and Chongqing is accelerating the expansion of the big data and AI industry. Keeping in mind the major strategies of the country and the needs for the development of the future-oriented industry, CQU is striving to strengthen in-depth partnerships with businesses and industries by capitalizing on its competitive strengths in relevant majors and disciplines. Being chosen to be part of the inaugural cohort of universities in China to join the OpenHarmony Technology Club is an endorsement and credit from the industry to CQU, as well as a great testament to the accomplishments of CQU in promoting the construction and development of the National Characterized and Exemplary Software School at CQU. The newly-established OpenHarmony Technology Club serves as a reliable platform for CQU to accelerate the improvement of the overall strength of the IT discipline and to raise highly skilled basic software professionals. It is my hope that by taking advantage of each other's strengths in scientific research, technologies, manpower and industries, the two sides would deeply promote the communication of open-source philosophies, cultivation of open-source professionals, and tackling of technical challenges, so as to structure a big data and AI ecosystem, and to drive the innovative development of the software industry.
Mr. Xu Zhipeng indicated that Chongqing Municipality has made positive progress in the intensive implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and the in-depth promotion of scientific and technological innovation driven by big data and AI. It is expected that the Club would play an important role in promoting the translation of scientific and technological achievements, the synergy between industry, academia and research institutes, as well as the cultivation of high-level innovation-oriented talents, and make greater contributions to the development of high-tech in Chongqing.
Mr. Chen Jianjun pointed out that Chongqing Municipal Economy and Information Technology Commission has achieved remarkable success in vigorously implementing the "Starry Sky" action plan for the software and information service industry of Chongqing Municipality in recent years. Hopefully, the high-quality operation of the Club could play a due role for the addressing the challenges related to the national key technology breakthroughs in basic software, so as to boost the development of the software industry in Chongqing.
Mr. Lu Wei noted that the National Alliance of Demonstration Software Colleges intends to collectively promote the training of national software professionals and the development of the software industry by integrating the resources of talent cultivation and industrial development of all relevant schools. It is hoped that the Club could play an important role as a new platform and vehicle in further promoting software education as well as the deep collaboration among industry, academia and research institutes.
Mr. Gong Ti expressed his expectation of working closely with universities and colleges to pool the wisdom of the industry, academia, research institutes and users to enable a well-established operating system base and an open-source ecosystem, to create a hub for operating system talents, and to contribute to the development of China's root technology ecosystem for basic software.
Mr. Chen Haibo said that in order to further promote the development of a thriving technology ecosystem of OpenHarmony, the Technical Steering Committee of OpenHarmony Project Community will continue to promote the collaboration between industry, academia and research institutes, be committed to building a network of industry, academia and research institutes, and form a closed loop driven by industry and academia through industrial technological problem solving, cutting-edge academic research, lectures, forums, competitions, and incubation of technical and industrial standards.
Mr. Liu Duo, Deputy Dean of CQU's School of Big Data and Software Engineering and Head of CQU's OpenHarmony Technology Club, briefed on the Club's construction ideas and plans.
Wang Shuxin, Gong Ti, Chen Haibo, and Zhang Hongyu, Dean of the School of Big Data and Software Engineering, jointly inaugurated the OpenHarmony Technology Club of Chongqing University.
A ceremony was also held at the event to award letters of appointment to industrial experts as part-time mentors in the Club. Through joint cultivation between CQU and enterprises, the Club will strengthen technology translation, promote the integration of science and education and the synergy between industry and education, and create an innovation-friendly ecosystem.
Zheng Weimin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Tsinghua University, attended the event as a special guest and delivered a technical report titled "To Make a Turnaround to the Ecosystem of Chinese Homemade AI System." Zheng Weimin stated that it is important to vigorously engage in research on large models based on operating systems, as well as to place emphasis on the critical role of ecosystem health for sustained industrial growth.
Gong Ti, as a special guest, lectured at a Harmony Open Course titled "Leading Technology Builds Ecosystem, Internet of Everything Wins the Future," offered his technical vision and ecological concepts of OpenHarmony, reviewed the progress of technology and ecosystems since OpenHarmony was open-sourced three years ago, and further outlooked the future development of OpenHarmony.
Chen Haibo, Chairman of the Technical Steering Committee of OpenHarmony Project Community and Huawei's Chief Scientist of Basic Software; Jin Zhi, Director of CCF Technical Committee of Systems Software and Professor of Peking University; Hu Chunming, Professor of Beihang University and Dean of the School of Software; and Li Kenli, Vice President of Hunan University, Director of the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha, and Director of the Research Institute of HNU in Chongqing, delivered technical reports titled "Research and Industrial Practice of Operating System Based on Industry-Academia-Research Institutes Collaboration," "Software Architect for Human-Machine-Things Convergence System: Reflections on Methodology," "Characterized Talent Cultivation in Key Software Fields," and "Research on Basic Mathematical Software for HPC+AI Convergence."
After the event, Wang Shuxin met with Gong Ti, Chen Haibo and others for further discussion of new modes and approaches for the deep integration of industry, academia and research institutes.
The event was co-hosted by CQU and the Technical Steering Committee of OpenAtom OpenHarmony Project Community, and was attended by more than 400 people including representatives of Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Chongqing Municipal Economy and Information Technology Commission and Shapingba District Science and Technology Bureau, representatives of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beihang University, National University of Defense Technology, Nanjing University, Hunan University, Beijing Jiaotong University and other universities, representatives of the Technical Steering Committee and the Working Committee of the OpenHarmony Project Community, representatives of enterprises and public institutions, representatives of CCF Chongqing, and relevant managers, faculty members and students from CQU.
CQU and Huawei have maintained a sound cooperative relationship for a long time, and have carried out in-depth and fruitful cooperation in promoting industry-education integration and collaborative training programs like "Fertile Land" and "Intelligent Base," as well as jointly promoting digital education, etc. In August 2023, the two sides signed an agreement on deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation to kick off a new phase of cooperation, and to carry out in-depth cooperation in building a benchmark smart campus and joint cultivation of engineers of excellence. The establishment of OpenHarmony Technology Club is an important part and practical move to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two sides.
